INTRODUCTION: Hip fractures, including femoral neck fractures (FNFs), represent a significant health challenge globally. Fractures of the hip can be categorized as either intracapsular or extracapsular. Among the elderly, FNFs are particularly prevalent and account for approximately half of all hip fractures.
AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of intracapsular FNFs in the elderly treated with cemented bipolar prostheses. Objectives: This study aims to: (i) assess the clinical outcomes, including pain relief, functional mobility, and patient satisfaction,

Due to demographic changes, fractures and subsequently delayed fracture healing as well as pseudarthrosis of the proximal femur are on the increase. In the acute fracture situation, a load-stable treatment with an intramedullary implant (cephalomedullary nail) is generally sought. To date, there is no uniform consensus on the optimal treatment for complicated cases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcome after revision of pseudarthrosis using a 95° blade plate in aseptic proximal femoral pseudarthrosis and to identify the specifications of blade plate treat

BACKGROUND: Triple Assessment Breast Clinics are designed for rapid diagnosis of symptomatic patients. When there is no concordance between clinical and radiological assessment, clinicians perform clinical core biopsies. In patients with a clinically suspicious examination (S4, S5) and normal imaging, clinically guided core biopsy should be performed as per NCCP guidelines. However, substantial research does not exist on the diagnostic value or use of clinical core biopsies in non-suspicious palpable (S3) lesions and practices differ in each health system.
AIMS: The aim of this research was t

BACKGROUND: Survivors of severe-to-critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may have functional impairment, radiological sequelae and persistent symptoms requiring prolonged follow-up. This pragmatic study aimed to describe their clinical follow-up and determine their respiratory recovery trajectories, and the factors that could influence them and their health-related quality of life.
METHODS: Adults hospitalised for severe-to-critical COVID-19 were evaluated at 3 months and up to 12 months post-hospital discharge in this prospective, multicentre, cohort study.
RESULTS: Among 485 enrolle

BACKGROUND: From a therapeutic viewpoint, it is important to differentiate the underlying causes of embolism in patients with cryptogenic stroke, such as aortic arch atheroma, patent foramen ovale, and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. We investigated the clinical and radiological characteristics of these 3 common causes of cryptogenic embolism to develop models for decision making in etiologic workups.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 321 consecutive patients with acute infarcts from cryptogenic embolism were included. Patients were divided into 3 groups-aortic arch atheroma (n=40), patent fora

The diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis is often delayed due to atypical clinical features and difficulty in obtaining positive bacteriology. We reviewed 232 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis diagnosed in Kedah Medical Centre, Alor Setar from January 1998 to December 2002. All age groups were affected with a male predominance (Male:Female ratio = 60:40). Risk factors include underlying diabetes mellitus (17.7%), positive family history (16.8%) and previous tuberculosis (5.2%). Nearly half (45.3%) of patients had symptoms for more than one year. Only 22% of patients had typical symptoms of tuberc

Previous studies and epidemiological data from the UK National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) have indicated significantly increased sensitivity for cancer detection with two-view rather than one-view mammographic screening. The radiological and pathological features of these extra cancers have not been previously reported in detail. We have studied all screen-detected cancers found as incident cases in the South West London Breast Screening Service between 1994-1997 on the second round of screening. To assess the effect of two-view versus one-view mammography on cancer det

OBJECTIVE: Comparison of the clinical and radiological effects of precise unilateral puncture pathway prepared by preoperative CT data and traditional unilateral puncture pathway in PVP administration for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Summary of background data. PVP is a commonly used vertebral augmentation operation for the treatment of painful spinal compression fractures. A percutaneous unilateral approach is routinely used to get access to the vertebral body. PVP has had positive clinical results in a number of prior investigations. Numerous difficulties an

PURPOSE: As health care payment systems transition from fee-for-service to bundled payments, there is an increasing opportunity for radiologists to collaborate to improve population-based health care outcomes. Our purpose was to estimate the extent to which patients engaged in mammography underwent other additional imaging- and non-imaging-based preventative health services using Centers for Disease Control National Population Health Surveys.
METHODS: Women aged 40 to 74 in the 2014 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System cross-sectional survey without histories of breast cancer who report

In recent years, concern about the effects of ionizing radiation on exposed individuals has led to the need to regulate and quantify the use of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Geopolitical events in recent times have also increased the population's perception of insecurity regarding ionizing radiation, and we increasingly face patients reluctant to undergo certain types of scans in our nuclear medicine services and, albeit less frequently, in radiology services. This article aims to summarise the extent to which ionizing radiation is present in our daily lives and how diagnostic and the

Meningitis is a significant health concern globally, with enterovirus (EV) being the most common cause of viral meningitis in adults. We discuss the case of a 57-year-old female patient with enteroviral meningitis manifesting as pseudotumor cerebri, posing significant clinical challenges. She presented with symptoms, signs, and radiological evidence suggesting idiopathic intracranial hypertension. The CSF analysis showed pleocytosis, which led to further investigations that unveiled a positive case of EV by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis. This case highlight

Clinical spectrum of melioidosis can vary from a simple skin infection and pneumonia to severe septicaemia with multiorgan failure. Bone involvement in melioidosis is generally low, and the major risk factor is the delay in diagnosing the primary site infection. We present a case of septic arthritis with primary lung melioidosis, whose diagnosis of pulmonary melioidosis was delayed for 5 weeks leading to a septicaemia and septic arthritis. This case highlights the importance of improved clinical awareness among health practitioners and a low threshold for radiological screening of high-risk pa

Well-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumor (WDPMT) is an uncommon tumor, formerly named well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma in the 2015 World Health Organization classification. It has a characteristic papillary architecture, bland cytologic features, a tendency toward superficial spread without invasion, and a good prognosis due to its clinically indolent behavior with prolonged survival. Rare cases with superficial invasion are termed WDPMT with invasive foci. WDPMT occurs primarily in the peritoneum of reproductive-age women, but also rarely in the pleura. We report a case of a

Patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may have endothelial inflammation, pseudoaneurysm, and an increasing risk of bleeding, especially during surgical procedures. In this article, we reported 2 cases of COVID-19 patients with neck vascular lesions. The first patient had pseudoaneurysm of the cricothyroid artery, which was treated by percutaneous glue injection through ultrasonography guidance. The second patient presented lateral neck hematoma in front of the left superior thyroid artery, which was managed by coil endovascular embolization. In the context of pandemic, the m

Leopard attacks on humans are reported most often from the Indian subcontinent. The bite wounds are complex injuries infected with polymicrobial inoculum and may present as punctures, abrasions, lacerations or avulsions. The presentation and acceptable treatment of these injuries vary according to the wound. We hereby describe the clinical presentation and treatment of a male victim with leopard bite injuries on the head and neck region. As bite injuries are commonly found on and around the face, maxillofacial surgeons should be familiar with the therapy. Through thorough clinical and radiolog

Rabies, a zoonotic viral encephalitis, continues to be a serious public health problem in India and several other countries in Asia and Africa. Survival is rarely reported in rabies, which is considered to be almost universally fatal. We report the clinical and radiological findings of eight patients with laboratory-confirmed rabies who survived the illness. With the exception of one patient who recovered with mild sequelae, all survivors had poor functional outcomes. The reported survival from rabies in recent years may reflect an increased awareness of the disease and greater access to bette

Nocardiosis is a rare but severe pyogenic or granulomatous disease and caused by Nocardia that mainly infects immunocompromised patients. We report here a case of an immunocompetent 24-year-old male student with community-acquired pneumonia with asymptomatic disseminated cerebral abscess by Brasiliensis nocardiosis. The patient was fully recovered after receiving optimized antimicrobial therapy without relapse. This case suggests the health professionals such as the physicians of pulmonary, infection, neurology department and et al should always think about unusual cause of community acquired

UNLABELLED: Thymoma is a primary mediastinal neoplasm arising from or exhibiting differentiation towards thymic epithelial cells, typically with the presence of non-neoplastic lymphocytes. A 13-year-old male Mynah bird (acridotheres tristis) was presented for evaluation of a 2.3 × 1.5 × 1.0 cm mass in the left ventrolateral cervical region. The clinical signs, radiology, cytohistopathology and immunohistochimy findings related to the thymoma are presented. These findings indicated that the tumor was a type AB thymoma according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and veterinary classificatio

Tuberculous meningitis is an infection of the the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord (meninges). Tuberculous meningitis is a major global health problem and is the most severe form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, with high rate mortality. Last years in Kosovo incidence of TB was decreased in less than 1000 cases per year and 10-20 cases per year of TB meningoencephalitis. Still Kosovo has limited numbers of TB. TBM is diagnosed on the basis of clinical features, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) studies, and radiological findings. Clinical picture, neurological status, anamnestic data, suspe
