Development and validation of a nomogram for predicting operating time in laparoscopic anterior resection of rectal cancer.

AIMS: The goal of this study is to create and verify a nomogram estimate operating time in rectal cancer (RC) patients based on clinicopathological factors and MRI/CT measurements before surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The nomogram was developed in a cohort of patients who underwent laparoscopic anterior resection (L-AR) for RC. The clinicopathological and pelvis parameters were collected. Risk factors for a long operating time were determined by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, and a nomogram was established with independent risk factors. The performance of the nomog

Primary Anorectal Melanoma: A Case Report.

UNLABELLED: Primary anorectal melanoma is an extremely rare and aggressive mucosal melanocytic malignancy of the anorectal region. Because of the rarity of the tumor and vague clinical presentations, diagnosis at an early stage is a challenge for clinicians. In our context, where the hemorrhoid is a diagnosis of cultural familiarity for any sort of rectal pathology, these patients often present to us at a very advanced stage of the disease. Here, we present a case of a 55-year-old male patient with stage 2 anorectal melanoma who is on adjuvant chemotherapy following abdominoperineal resection

Novel biomarkers to predict treatment response and prognosis in locally advanced rectal cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

PURPOSE: To identify genes associated with treatment response and prognosis for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT). METHODS: In our cohort, gene expression profiles of 64 tumor biopsy samples before NCRT were examined and generated. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis was performed to identify gene modules. External validation datasets included GSE3493, GSE119409, and GSE133057. The expression of candidate genes was evaluated using immunohistochemistry (IHC). TIMER was used to assess immune infiltration. RESULTS: We identifi

[Current Status and Research Progress in the Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Colorectal Juvenile Polyps].

Juvenile polyps(JP),also known as retention polyps, are the most common type of colorectal polyps and the main cause of lower gastrointestinal bleeding in children, with rare incidence in adults. In recent years, with the development and application of electronic colonoscopy, the detection rate of colorectal JP has gradually increased. It is generally accepted that JP is a benign hamartomatous lesion of the intestine, while it can cause complications such as massive hemorrhage of the lower digestive tract, anemia, intussusception, and intestinal obstruction. Moreover, there are reports about the cancerati

Timing of rectal cancer surgery after short-course radiotherapy: national database study.

BACKGROUND: Previous randomized trials found that a prolonged interval between short-course radiotherapy (SCRT, 25 Gy in 5 fractions) and surgery for rectal cancer (4-8 weeks, SCRT-delay) results in a lower postoperative complication rate and a higher pCR rate than SCRT and surgery within a week (SCRT-direct surgery). This study sought to confirm these results in a Dutch national database. METHODS: Patients with intermediate-risk rectal cancer (T3(mesorectal fascia (MRF)-) N0 M0 and T1-3(MRF-) N1 M0) treated with either SCRT-delay (4-12 weeks) or SCRT-direct surgery in 2018-2021 were selected

Study on Ultrasonographic Diagnosis and Postoperative Comprehensive Nursing of Rectal Cancer in Preoperative Staging.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The aim of this study is to evaluate the value of ultrasonography in preoperative T staging of rectal cancer and to study the effect of psychological nursing and colostomy nursing in patients with rectal cancer after colostomy. In this study, a retrospective comparative analysis was conducted on 41 patients with colostomy after rectal cancer surgery who had been treated in a hospital from June 2020 to June 2021 and 41 patients who only had general nursing. By analysis, 42 cases were detected by TRUS. Ultrasonic stage (uT) was consistent with pathological stage (pT) in 32 cases, and the coincid

Global status of research on radiotherapy for rectal cancer: A bibliometric and visual analysis.

Radiotherapy for rectal cancer has received increasing research attention in recent years; however, no bibliometric assessment has been conducted on the progress of research in this field. This study aimed to visualize the research evolution and emerging research hotspots in the field of rectal cancer radiotherapy using bibliometric methods. Data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database, including countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and co-citations of references, and the CiteSpace software was used for bibliometric analysis. A total of 5,372 publications on radi

Fascial space priority approach for laparoscopic total pelvic exenteration in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Total pelvic exenteration (TPE) with intent to achieve a pathological R0 resection is now considered as the only chance of a long-term survival for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) invading into adjacent organs. Lately, laparoscopic total pelvic exenteration (LTPE) is performed and achieved in several specialized centers and showed a promising application prospect. Although this is universally realized by surgeons, there are only few specialized centers to perform this complex surgery, due to concerns about the high morbidity and mortality. The techniques associated need to be

Measurement of distal intramural spread and the optimal distal resection by naked eyes after neoadjuvant radiation for rectal cancers.

BACKGROUND: The safe distance between the intraoperative resection line and the visible margin of the distal rectal tumor after preoperative radiotherapy is unclear. We aimed to investigate the furthest tumor intramural spread distance in fresh tissue to determine a safe distal intraoperative resection margin length. METHODS: Twenty rectal cancer specimens were collected after preoperative radiotherapy. Tumor intramural spread distances were defined as the distance between the tumor's visible and microscopic margins. Visible tumor margins in fresh specimens were identified during the operatio

Distinctive features of small vessels on the mesorectal and parietal pelvic fascia as important landmarks in guiding precise inter-fascial dissection for low rectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: The confinement of the pelvis and the complexity of pelvic fascial anatomy still pose difficulties in achieving good quality surgery for rectal cancer. We aimed to introduce small vessels on the mesorectal fascia and the parietal pelvic fascia as novel landmarks to aid in the identification of the inter-fascial dissection plane. Besides, the perioperative, survival, and functional outcomes of this surgical technique were reported. METHODS: We first described that small vessels running on the mesorectal fascia and the parietal pelvic fascia showed distinctive features, which includ

A meta-analysis of low Hartmann's procedure versus abdominoperineal resection for non-restorative treatment of rectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Non-restorative surgery for rectal cancer is indicated in patients with comorbidities, advanced disease and poor continence. The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the postoperative morbidity of Hartmann's procedure (HP) with that of extrasphincteric and intersphincteric abdominoperineal resection (APR) in the treatment of rectal cancer. METHODS: The Medline, Embase and Cochrane databases were searched for publications comparing postoperative morbidity of HP and APR. The incidence of overall surgical complications, pelvic-perineal complications and pelvic abscess was analyse
