Forty-three patients on chronic hemodialysis who before the present study had only received a low-dose supplement of folic and ascorbic acid were studied prospectively for one year. After baseline values were obtained in month one, increasing doses of postdialysis vitamin supplements were prescribed for the vitamins which were found to be insufficient in order to determine the minimal amount of oral postdialysis supplement necessary to normalize vitamin levels. The aim of this cross-sectional observational study was to estimate vitamin D, B2, A, E, β-carotene (BC) status in rural residents, living in Russian Arctic (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area). 216 healthy adults (166 women, 50 men, 45.4±0.8 years old; BMI 27.5±0.5 kg/m2), 76% aboriginal ethnicity and 24% non-aboriginals subjects have been surveyed in spring 2016. BACKGROUND: A vegetarian diet is considered to promote health and longevity and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. However, a vegetarian diet may be deficient in some nutrients. Exclusion of animal products in vegetarian diets may affect the status of certain B-vitamins, and further cause the rise of plasma homocysteine concentration.
OBJECTIVE: The nutritional status of various B-vitamins (B(1), B(2), B(6), B(12), folic acid) and the concentration of homocysteine in blood plasma of omnivores (n = 40), vegetarians (n = 36) and vegans (n = 42) in Austria was evaluated.

An endoscopic survey was undertaken in Jiaoxian, People's Republic of China, a population at low risk for oesophageal cancer, to determine t … ian. The findings suggest that these lesions are in fact precancerous. Vitamin analysis showed that riboflavin deficiency was widespread in Jiaoxian, as in Iran and Linxian, but was more severe in Linxian than in Jiaoxian.
