The role of gender in the active attitude toward treatment and health among older patients in primary health care-self-assessed health status and sociodemographic factors as moderators.

BACKGROUND: Active attitude toward treatment and health (ATH) leads to improved cooperation and better health outcomes in patients. Supporting it in the population of older adults is a growing need in primary care. Recognising the role of gender, health and other sociodemographic factors can help to distinguish patients who need the most assistance in activation from general practitioners (GPs). The objective of the study was to investigate gender differences in ATH as well as the moderating role of self-assessed health (SAH) and selected sociodemographic factors (age, education, financial sta

Are items from current self-report measures adequate for assessing autistic traits in women? Insights from a modified Delphi study with autistic women and professional experts.

BACKGROUND: Sex/gender-related measurement bias in autism measures has been proposed as a factor contributing to the underdiagnosis of autistic women, yet research in this area remains limited. This study builds on a small but growing body of work addressing this gap by using a modified Delphi methodology to reach consensus among autistic women and academics/clinicians on the most relevant items from five measures of autistic traits: Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ-50), Broad Autism Phenotype Questionnaire (BAPQ), Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory (CATI), Girls Questionnaire for Autism Spect

Assessing ChatGPT vs. evidence-based online responses for polycystic ovary syndrome self-management and education: an international cross-sectional blinded survey of healthcare professionals.

Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered large language models, such as ChatGPT, are increasingly used by the public for health information. The reliability of such novel AI-tools in providing credible polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) information/advice requires investigation. Healthcare professionals involved in PCOS care (n = 43 from 14 countries) used a 5-point Likert scale to evaluate ChatGPT-generated responses to frequently asked questions about PCOS against the corresponding patient-orientated, evidence-based recommendations/responses available online. ChatGPT responses were rated significa

Simulation model to assess the validity of the clinical portfolio diet score used in the PortfolioDiet.app for dietary self-tracking: a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial in hyperlipidemic adults.

INTRODUCTION: The Portfolio Diet combines cholesterol-lowering plant foods for the management of cardiovascular disease risk. However, the translation of this dietary approach into clinical practice necessitates a user-friendly method for patients to autonomously monitor their adherence. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and validate the clinical-Portfolio Diet Score (c-PDS) as a food-based metric to facilitate self-tracking of the Portfolio Diet. METHODS: Using a simulation model to estimate the c-PDS, the validity was assessed in a secondary analysis of a completed trial of the Portfo

What have the difference scores not been telling us? A critique of the use of self--ideal discrepancy in the assessment of body image and evaluation of an alternative data-analytic framework.

Difference scores are often used as a means of assessing body image satisfaction using silhouette scales. Unfortunately, difference scores suffer from numerous potential methodological problems, including reduced reliability, ambiguity, confounded effects, untested constraints, and dimensional reduction. In this article, the methodological problems are outlined and an alternative framework is discussed. The alternative consists of a minimum of testing the constraints implied by the difference score model, and at most evaluating more exact body image hypotheses by incorporating nonlinear terms

A prospective multipractice investigation of patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tears: the importance of comorbidities, practice, and other covariables on self-assessed shoulder function and health status.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff tears are among the most common conditions of the shoulder. One of the major difficulties in studying patients with rotator cuff tears is that the clinical expression of these tears varies widely and different practices may have substantially different patient populations. The goals of the present prospective multipractice study were to use patient self-assessment questionnaires (1) to identify some of the characteristics of patients with rotator cuff tears, other than the size of the cuff tear, that are correlated with shoulder function, and (2) to determine whether t…

A comparison of self-report and clinical diagnostic interviews for depression: diagnostic interview schedule and schedules for clinical assessment in neuropsychiatry in the Baltimore epidemiologic catchment area follow-up.

BACKGROUND: The field of psychiatric epidemiology continues to employ self-report instruments, but the low degree of agreement between diagnoses achieved using these instruments vs. that achieved by psychiatrists in the clinical modality threatens the credibility of the results. METHODS: In the Baltimore Epidemiologic Catchment Area follow-up, 349 individuals who had a Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIS) interview were blindly examined by psychiatrists using the Schedules for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (SCAN). Comparisons were made at the level of diagnosis, syndrome, and DSM-IV s

Effects of Long-Term Cocaine Self-Administration on Kappa Opioid Receptors in Socially Housed Cynomolgus Monkeys as Assessed With Positron Emission Tomography Imaging and Neuronally Derived Exosomes.

BACKGROUND: The current study utilized positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to examine how long-term cocaine self-administration (SA) and time off cocaine affected kappa opioid receptor (KOR) availability in the brain of previously cocaine-naïve monkeys. In addition, neuronally derived small extracellular vesicles (NDEs) were measured from plasma to identify peripheral measures of KORs. METHODS: Female (n = 6) and male (n = 7) cynomolgus monkeys, living in stable same-sex social groups, were trained to self-administer intravenous cocaine. PET imaging with the KOR selective agonist [11C]

Assessing Vaccine Intentions, Knowledge, Self-Efficacy, and Trust: A Cross-Sectional Study on Perceptions of Monkeypox Vaccination and Public Health Risk Awareness in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria.

Introduction The global emergence of monkeypox has heightened public health concerns, particularly in regions with limited vaccine uptake. In Nigeria, understanding the factors influencing vaccination intentions is essential for developing effective public health strategies. Despite vaccine availability, hesitancy and varying degrees of acceptance persist, driven by factors such as self-efficacy, vaccine trust, and overall attitudes toward vaccination. Previous research highlights the importance of these factors in shaping health behaviors, particularly in vulnerable populations. In Benue Stat
