Factors associated with death in women with intimate partner violence notification in Brazil.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a social and public health concern. This article aims to identify factors associated with death in women with IPV notification. This is a case-control study based on the record-linkage of the Mortality Information System (SIM), from 2011 to September/2017, and the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), 2011 to 2016. The "case" group consisted of women aged 15 to 59 years old with notification of violence on SINAN, whose author was current or former intimate partner and died by any cause registered on SIM. The "control" group consisted of women 15-59

Is listener comfort a viable construct in stuttering research?

This article reports the development of a tool for measuring how comfortable a person feels when communicating with someone who has undergone treatment for stuttering. The person rates the speaker on a 9-point Listener Comfort Scale (9 = extremely comfortable, 1 = extremely uncomfortable). In a preliminary investigation of the reliability and validity of the scale, 15 unsophisticated listeners rated video recordings of 10 adults before and after a prolonged-speech treatment for stuttering and of 10 matched controls. The results were compared with those of another 15 listeners who rated the sam

Performance-only Social Anxiety as a Distinct Clinical Profile: Evidence from Obsessive Beliefs, Alexithymia, and Cognitive Flexibility in Adolescent Girls with Social Anxiety Disorder.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) in adolescent girls is clinically heterogeneous, yet the cognitive and emotional processes distinguishing performance-based, interaction-based, and combined presentations remain poorly characterized. In this case-control study, 219 adolescent girls aged 12-18 years were recruited from four child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinics and assigned, via K-SADS-PL-guided diagnostic evaluation, to four groups: performance anxiety only (SA - PA+; n = 52), social interaction anxiety only (SA + PA-; n = 50), combined social interaction and performance anxiety (SA +

Alcoholism as a medical and socio-legal problem and ways to solve it.

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: Almost 3.3 million people die from alcohol abuse each year worldwide accounting for almost 5% of all deaths. In 20% of cases alcohol is a cause of death in traffic accidents with more than 250 million men and women suffering from health disorders due to alcohol consumption and the prospects for improving this situation are disappointing [1]. Alcohol abuse has a negative impact not only on the health of the population, but also on public relations in general. It is about causing physical, moral and material harm to the "Работает" part of the population, as well as financ

"Manejar la Situacion": Partner Notification, Partner Management, and Conceptual Frameworks for HIV/STI Control Among MSM in Peru.

Previous analyses of partner notification (PN) have addressed individual, interpersonal, social, and structural issues influencing PN outcomes but have paid less attention to the conceptual framework of PN itself. We conducted 18 individual interviews and 8 group discussions, in a two-stage qualitative research process, to explore the meanings and contexts of PN for sexually transmitted infections (STI) among men who have sex with men (MSM) and men who have sex with men and women (MSMW) in Lima, Peru. Participants described PN as the open disclosure of private, potentially stigmatizing informa

Perceived Facilitators and Barriers regarding Partner Notification in People Living With HIV in Hunan, China: A Qualitative Study From the Patient Perspective.

Consensus has been reached about the important role of partner notification (PN) for HIV prevention and control programs. We used a qualitative study to explore facilitators of and barriers to PN to understand reasons for disclosure and nondisclosure by people living with HIV in China. Our main goal was to identify information related to PN that may be unique to the Chinese cultural context. Of 41 participants who were interviewed, 33 had disclosed their HIV status to sexual partners. Facilitators for PN included preserving the integrity of the partnership, social support, and potential benefi

The effects of attentional training on physiological stress recovery after induced social threat.

Social stress has been related to both physiological and psychological responses. The recovery of stress is influenced by the way environmental information is processed, i.e., what information is attended to and how it is interpreted. The present study investigated the effect of attention modification training on physiological stress recovery following induced stress. A group of applicants preparing for a job interview were randomly allocated to an attention training condition versus a control condition. Afterwards, they were asked to give an artificial job interview to a real life jury while

Re-emerging conceptual integration: commentary on Berkowitz's "on the consideration of automatic as well as controlled psychological processes in aggression".

In recent decades, researchers in various areas of psychology have challenged the claims of a single mode of information processing, and developed dual-process models of social behaviors. Although these theories differ on a number of dimensions, they all share the basic assumption that two different modes of information processing operate in making decision and copying behavior. In essence, the common distinction in these perspectives is between controlled vs. automatic, conscious vs. unconscious, and affective vs. cognitive modes of processing. The purpose of Berkowitz's article is to go beyo

Extraction of mean emotional tone from face arrays in social anxiety disorder.

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is characterized by intense fear when facing a crowd. Processing biases of crowd-related information have been suggested as contributing to the etiology and maintenance of the disorder. Here we tested whether patients with SAD display aberrant patterns of extracting the mean emotional tone from sets of faces. METHODS: Twenty-one participants with SAD and 24 unanxious control participants had to determine the average emotion expression of sets of six different morphed faces ranging from happy to angry. In 20% of trials the six faces were randomly sampl

The Efficacy of Web-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy With a Shame-Specific Intervention for Social Anxiety Disorder: Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is one of the most prevalent psychological disorders and generally co-occurs with elevated shame levels. Previous shame-specific interventions could significantly improve outcomes in social anxiety treatments. Recent review suggests that integrating a more direct shame intervention could potentially increase the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy. Web-based cognitive behavioral therapy (WCBT) has proven efficacy, sustaining benefits for 6 months to 4 years. Previous evidence indicated that shame predicted the reduction of social anxiety and

Enhancing health literacy and patient engagement through a privacy-aware social network-based digital health communication framework.

Digital health applications and social-network-enabled healthcare platforms have transformed healthcare delivery by facilitating health communication, patient engagement, and access to medical information. However, the continuous exchange of sensitive biomedical data across interconnected digital environments raises significant ethical, privacy, and security challenges that may compromise user trust and the effective adoption of digital health technologies. Existing studies primarily address individual security and privacy concerns, with limited attention to integrated frameworks that simultan

The effects of Cognitive Bias Modification training and oxytocin administration on trust in maternal support: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Lack of trust in parental support is a transdiagnostic risk factor for the development of psychological problems throughout the lifespan. Research suggests that children's cognitive attachment representations and related information processing biases could be an important target for interventions aiming to build trust in the parent-child relationship. A paradigm that can alter these biases and increase trust is that of Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM), during which a target processing bias is systematically trained. Trust-related CBM training effects could possibly be enhanced by

Socioeconomic and Clinical Determinants Driving Access to BRCA Genetic Testing in Cancer : A Case-Control Study Using Observational Electronic Health Records Across Multiple Sites.

IMPORTANCE: BRCA genetic testing is critical for cancer risk assessment, treatment and personalization, yet substantial underutilization persists. Socioeconomic and clinical factors may strongly influence testing uptake; therefore, identifying the potential drivers to BRCA testing and treatment is essential for addressing gaps in access, increasing retention into care, and improving cancer outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To quantify the putatively causal effects of SDoH on BRCA genetic testing among individuals with breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers and to develop a predictive model to i
