Hamstring Strain Injury in Athletes: A Summary of Clinical Practice Guideline Recommendations: Using the Evidence to Guide Physical Therapist Practice.

Hamstring strain injuries (HSIs) are common in sports that involve high-speed running, jumping, kicking, explosive lower extremity movements, or lifting objects from the ground. HSIs may result in considerable impairment, activity limitation, and participation restriction, including time lost from competitive sports. The high reinjury rate is also a challenge. Improving reinjury risk assessment and decision making for safe return to play is a high priority for all stakeholders. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2022;52(3):127-128. doi:10.2519/jospt.2022.0501.

The Lifecycle of Electronic Health Record Data in HIV-Related Big Data Studies: Qualitative Study of Bias Instances and Potential Opportunities for Minimization.

BACKGROUND: Electronic health record (EHR) data are widely used in public health research, including in HIV-related studies, but are limited by potential bias due to incomplete and inaccurate information, lack of generalizability, and lack of representativeness. OBJECTIVE: This study explores how workflow processes among HIV health care providers (HCPs), data scientists, and state health department professionals may potentially introduce or minimize bias within EHR data. METHODS: One focus group with 3 health department professionals working in HIV surveillance and 16 in-depth interviews (ie

Exploring Australian pharmacists' views toward reducing the risk of medicines-related harm in aged care residents.

Medicines-related harm is common in older people living in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). Pharmacists offering services in the aged care sector may play a key role in reducing medicines-related injury. This study aimed to explore Australian pharmacists' views toward reducing the risk of medicines-related harm in older residents. Qualitative, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 Pharmacists across Australia providing services (e.g., through the provision of medication reviews, supplying medications, or being an embedded pharmacist) to RACFs identified via convenience sam

Alcohol minimum unit pricing and people experiencing homelessness: A qualitative study of stakeholders' perspectives and experiences.

INTRODUCTION: Minimum unit pricing (MUP) may reduce harmful drinking in the general population, but there is little evidence regarding its impact on marginalised groups. Our study is the first to explore the perceptions of MUP among stakeholders working with people experiencing homelessness following its introduction in Scotland in May 2018. METHODS: Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with 41 professional stakeholders from statutory and third sector organisations across Scotland. We explored their views on MUP and its impact on people experiencing homelessness, service prov

Setting the top 10 eating disorder research and translation priorities for Australia.

OBJECTIVES: People with eating disorders, as well as their caregivers, experience high symptom burden, reduced quality of life and increased risk of early mortality. A lack of resources, disjointed vision and limited uptake of the evidence have limited the translation and implementation of research into practice. Little is known about what stakeholders (people with a lived experience, caregivers, health care professionals, researchers and policymakers) see as the most important research priorities. This study aimed to identify Australia's top 10 consensus-derived research and translation prior

"Hitting as Light as Feathers": Religious Leaders' Voices on Domestic Violence.

Domestic violence (DV) is described as a major public health issue that negatively affects women's physical, mental, reproductive, and sexual health. In Lebanon, there are 18 religious sects that are allowed by the Lebanese constitution to manage their own affairs, judge, legislate, and issue rulings. These laws discriminate against married women and favor men over women. The purpose of this research is to explore the views and attitudes of religious leaders on DV, and their experiences of dealing with DV in Lebanon. This study involved in-depth interviews with 13 male religious leaders from v

Establishing Medical Schools in Limited Resource Settings.

INTRODUCTION: One urgent goal of countries in sub-Saharan Africa is to dynamically scale up the education and work force of medical doctors in the training institutions and health facilities, respectively. These countries face challenges related to the rapid scale up which is mostly done without proper strategic planning, without the basic elements of infrastructure development, educational as well as academic and administrative human resources. Medical education done in the context of limited resources is thus compromising the quality of graduates. In the future, a collaborative and need-base

Finding consensus on meaningful reporting measures for rheumatoid arthritis: Results from a modified Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Though specialty pharmacies collect and report a myriad of measures to internal and external stakeholders, these data are infrequently used for evaluating specialty pharmacy performance or clinical decision-making. Establishing standardized specialty pharmacy measures could enable benchmarking, performance-based contracting, and high-cost drug utilization management while improving patient care and specialty medication management. OBJECTIVE: To determine consensus among specialty pharmacy stakeholders on important and usable measures for specialty pharmacies managing patients with

A roadmap to scale up person-centred care in the HIV response: recommendations from a global consensus-building process.

INTRODUCTION: World Health Organization global normative guidance recommends person-centred care (PCC) approaches to reduce HIV-related mortality and morbidity and to improve health-related quality of life (HrQoL). However, consensus on the priority PCC elements and guidance on how different stakeholders can realize PCC principles at the health systems, service delivery and individual client-healthcare worker (HCW) levels are lacking. We conducted a global consensus-building process to define core PCC elements and develop recommendations for implementation at scale. METHODS: We used a multi-p

Cost-effectiveness of extended-release injectable naltrexone among incarcerated persons with opioid use disorder before release from prison versus after release.

INTRODUCTION: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is highly prevalent among incarcerated populations, and the risk of fatal overdose following release from prison is substantial. Despite efficacy, few correctional facilities provide evidence-based addiction treatment. Extended-release injectable naltrexone (XR-NTX) administered prior to release from incarceration may improve health and economic outcomes. METHODS: We conducted an economic evaluation alongside a randomized controlled trial testing the effectiveness of XR-NTX before release from prison (n = 38) vs. XR-NTX referral after release (n = 48) o

Acceptability of a Community Health Worker Program to Link High-Risk People in Jail to HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis.

BACKGROUND: People involved in the criminal justice system (PICJS) are at a disproportionate risk for HIV infection. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective for HIV prevention; however, there are barriers to accessing and remaining on PrEP. We explored perspectives on partnering with a community health worker (CHW) to link PICJS to PrEP. METHODS: We interviewed PICJS (n=21) and relevant stakeholders (n=15). RESULTS: The following themes emerged: 1) All participants were receptive to the idea of a CHW program and believed it would be valuable; 2) the PICJS participating in the CHW

Experiences of Augmentative and Alternative Communication use in School: A Qualitative Evidence Synthesis Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to a range of communication methods used by children or adults to enhance or replace oral communication. Studies show many children with communication needs who require AAC do not have access to appropriate supports, and that embedding AAC interventions in the classroom is challenging. This means many children who use AAC face barriers to meaningful participation, engagement, and independence. Understanding the experiences and perspectives of AAC users and those who support the use of AAC in the classroom can provide actionabl

Advancing gender equity in primary health care: Lessons from integrating gender-responsive strategies into service delivery in Ethiopia.

Gender inequities remain a major barrier to women's access to reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) services. To address this gap, the Improve Primary Health Care Service Delivery (IPHCSD) project integrated a set of gender-responsive strategies into primary health care (PHC) systems. This paper presents lessons from implementing gender-responsive strategies that empowered women and communities while enhancing access to essential health services. A quasi-experimental embedded implementation research with a participatory mixed-methods approach was employed. The study combine
