Frailty Is Associated With Postoperative Complications and Device Removal and Revision in Men Undergoing Surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence.

PURPOSE: Our goal was to understand the association between frailty and postoperative complications after artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) and male urethral sling placement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective study of Medicare beneficiaries undergoing AUS or sling from 2014 to 2016. Baseline frailty was quantified using the Claims-Based Frailty Index (CFI): not frail (<0.15), prefrail (0.15-0.24), and mildly-to-severely frail (≥0.25). Thirty-day complications and device revision/removal were analyzed using generalized linear regression models with log link, Poisson distribution

Transvaginal mesh surgery for pelvic organ prolapse does not affect sexual function at long term follow up.

OBJECTIVE: Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) may impair sexual health. Though sexual dysfunction in women with POP is associated with reduced sexual arousal and dyspareunia, sexual outcomes have not been fully investigated. Transvaginal mesh repair (TVMR) is a POP therapeutic option, but is debated as a possible cause of worsening in sexual function. Aim of this study is to evaluate pre- and post-operative sexual outcomes in women undergone to TVMR. STUDY DESIGN: Data coming from sexually active women submitted to TVMR for POP with commercial mesh kits (device whose production has been suspended) w

Stress Urinary Incontinence Surgery in Washington State Before and After Introduction of the Mesh Midurethral Sling.

OBJECTIVES: Mesh midurethral slings (MUSs) are safe, effective treatments for female stress urinary incontinence (SUI), but many companies have ceased production because of controversies surrounding transvaginal mesh. To determine if introduction of MUS has increased the complication rate associated with SUI surgery, we compared women undergoing SUI surgery in the MUS era to those who had surgery prior its introduction. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of a statewide hospital discharge database. Stress urinary incontinence surgeries from 1987 to 1996 and 2007 to 2013 were identi

Strong correlation between standing cough test and 24-hour pad weights in the evaluation of male stress urinary incontinence.

AIMS: We sought to compare in-office physical exam findings via standing cough test (SCT) versus 24-hour pad weights among men seeking treatment for postprostatectomy stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHODS: A retrospective review of a single surgeon database of incontinence procedures was performed. Documentation of SUI severity (grades 0-4) was completed by SCT preoperatively utilizing the Male Stress Incontinence Grading Scale (MSIGS). All patients had pads per day (PPD) and 24-hour pad weights obtained. We determined the Spearman's correlation coefficient between these variables. RESU
