Anterior segment optical coherence tomography in ocular surface tumours and simulating lesions.

This study aims to systematically review the reported literature on the use of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) in ocular surface tumours and simulating lesions. A systematic literature search was done using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases between January 2002 and December 2021. On AS-OCT, ocular surface squamous neoplasia typically demonstrate epithelial thickening, epithelial hyperreflectivity, and an abrupt transition between normal and abnormal epithelium. Conjunctival nevi usually show mildly hyperreflective epithelium of normal thickness, internal hyper

Multimodal imaging including optical coherence tomography angiography of benign familial fleck retina.

A 44-year-old woman presented with complaints of pain in the right eye (RE). Fundus examination revealed disc edema in the RE along with retinal flecks sparing the macula in both eyes (BE). Fundus autofluorescence demonstrated a symmetrical pattern of white flecks in BE. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) revealed the lesions at the level of retinal pigment epithelium with impingement onto the outer retina. SD-OCT angiography through the flecks revealed hyperreflective lesions at the level of avascular retina. RE B-scan revealed a T-sign. Based on these findings, she was dia

Role of anterior segment optical coherence tomography in scleral diseases: A review.

BACKGROUND: Scleritis and episcleritis are an overlapping spectrum of diseases and accurate diagnosis is of utmost importance as the treatment and prognosis are vastly different. Predominantly a clinical diagnosis, the challenge lies in those cases with equivocal clinical features. Furthermore, clinical grading of scleritis is subjective and hence is neither very reliable nor reproducible. Existing modalities such as slit lamp examination and clinical photographs in scleritis describe macroanatomy but do not provide details on the microanatomy of the sclera. A recent adjusted algorithm for ant

Machine learning classification of multiple sclerosis in children using optical coherence tomography.

BACKGROUND: In children, multiple sclerosis (MS) is the ultimate diagnosis in only 1/5 to 1/3 of cases after a first episode of central nervous system (CNS) demyelination. As the visual pathway is frequently affected in MS and other CNS demyelinating disorders (DDs), structural retinal imaging such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used to differentiate MS. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the utility of machine learning (ML) based on OCT features to identify distinct structural retinal features in children with DDs. METHODS: This study included 512 eyes from 187 (neyes

Gold Nanorod Enhanced Photoacoustic Microscopy and Optical Coherence Tomography of Choroidal Neovascularization.

Visualization and evaluation of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) are major challenges to improve treatment outcomes for patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Limitations of current imaging techniques include the limited penetration depth, spatial resolution, and sensitivity and difficulty visualizing CNV from the healthy microvasculature. In this study, a custom-built multimodal photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) system was developed to distinguish the margin of CNV in living rabbits with the assistance of functionalized gold nanorods conjug

Optical Coherence Tomography of Plaque Erosion: JACC Focus Seminar Part 2/3.

Plaque erosion, a distinct histopathological and clinical entity, accounts for over 30% of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Optical coherence tomography allows in vivo diagnosis of plaque erosion. Local flow perturbation with activation of Toll-like receptor 2 and CD8+ T cells and subsequent desquamation of endothelium and neutrophil extracellular trap formation contribute to mechanisms of plaque erosion. Compared with ACS patients with plaque rupture, those with plaque erosion are younger, have fewer traditional cardiovascular risk factors, have lower plaque burden, and are more likely to pres

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography of the Choriocapillaris in Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

The advent of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has allowed for remarkable advancements in our understanding of the role of the choriocapillaris in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). As a relatively new imaging modality, techniques to analyze and quantify choriocapillaris images are still evolving. Quantification of the choriocapillaris requires careful consideration of many factors, including the type of OCTA device, segmentation of the choriocapillaris slab, image processing techniques, and thresholding method. OCTA imaging shows that the choriocapillaris is impaired in in
