A three-year old girl, who had severe cerebral palsy, severe mental retardation, and symptomatic epilepsy, was suffering from intractable hiccup that lasted for more than an hour since she was 2 years and 10 months old when she undertook tracheotomy and laryngotracheal separation. Retropharyngeal hematoma occurs rarely. It is located just in front of the cervical spine. Many circumstances can lead to its development. A trauma and/or anticoagulants are often key factors. The assessment must be made extremely carefully as such a hematoma can induce an airway compromise. Trauma being a key factor, it can also present with cervical spine fractures, increasing the risks. Phonosurgical management of early and midsized glottic cancer has evolved considerably during the past decade. There has been a partial migration from transcervical to transoral partial laryngectomy to diminish perioperative morbidity (ie, tracheotomy) and to facilitate subsequent voice restoration. OBJECTIVE: To introduce a new method for treating laryngeal stenosis of both children and adults using silicon T tube and CO2 laser.
METHODS: Twenty-two cases stenosis of adults and children were treated with silicon T tube and CO2 laser. The tracheotomy were enlarged upward, the laryngeal cavity scar was removed by using CO2 laser and the laryngeal cavity was exposed by distending laryngoscope under general anesthesia. A sudden unexpected death is reported in a 15-month old boy, born with an extremely low birth weight and then had suffered prolonged respiratory complications arising from infantile respiratory distress syndrome. Ten cases of laryngotracheal invasion by well-differentiated thyroid cancer are described. All the patients were over 40 years of age, with a male preponderance of 4:1. Total glossectomy with preservation of larynx was performed in 27 patients with lesions affecting the whole tongue and developing from the base, the tonsilloglottal recess, of the junction zone and of the posterior wall, or from the mobile tongue. In this paper we present the results of radiotherapy in a case of severe macroglossy in a 14-year-old girl. Before radiotherapy, two surgical interventions (so-called wedge formed resections) had been performed. In spite of these surgical procedures the tongue continued growing.
