An unusual case of complete duplication of the bladder and urethra in the coronal plane associated with left ectopic kidney, duplication of the clitoris and a chondrolipomatous malformation in the pelvic region in a girl is reported. The accessory bladder was located posterolateral to the normal bladder and a ureteric opening into the accessory bladder was found. The malformation was initially identified by US and cystography and confirmed by cystoscopy.

PURPOSE: Although vesical calculi are routinely treated transurethrally, open vesicolithotomy is generally performed in patients with an impassable or surgically ablated urethra. Primary carcinoma of the male urethra accounts for less than 1% of malignancies in males. A 54-year-old man with primary adenocarcinoma of the urethra with metastasis to the glans penis and lymphadenopathy in the right groin was treated successfully by combined chemotherapy (5-fluorouracil and cis-platinum) and external beam radiotherapy (total dose of 75 Gy). Short-term remission using multimodal approach with penile preservation was achieved in the present case.

The pancreaticoduodenocystostomy has become the most acquired technique to perform a combined pancreas-kidney-transplantation. This operation shows some disadvantages. There sometimes are urological problems. In this article, we describe two patients, who showed urethral problems due to this operation. At the same time, we would like to describe the possible causes and the preferable treatment of this rare complication. We advise to start with a conservative treatment and, if problems persist, to consider an intestinal conversion.

PURPOSE: Related values of pressure and cross-sectional area in the proximal urethra were measured in patients with bladder outlet obstruction. Urethral opening pressure and elastance (the inverse of compliance) were estimated.

Repair of vesicovaginal fistulas resulting from obstetric trauma remains a major challenge to surgeons worldwide. Large defects that result in partial or total urethral loss are especially difficult to repair. Eight boys with congenital urethral hypoplasia and atresia are described, including 5 with a patent urachus, 2 with an "H" type urethral perineal duplication and 1 with a rectovesical fistula. The directly acting alpha-receptor agonist midodrine is active through its metabolite ST 1059. The effects of ST 1059 were investigated in vitro on strips of human urethra and on small human omental arteries. An ultrasonic examination revealed a grossly distended fetal abdomen. Amniocentesis at 19 weeks' gestation showed raised amniotic fluid alphafetoprotein, a second band of specific acetylcholinesterase, and a fetal karyotype 47,XY,+18. The pregnancy was terminated and the necropsy examination showed absence of the urethra, grossly distended bladder, hydroureters, and congenital heart anomalies.

The transmission factor and the stress factor (a new parameter introduced by us) were determined at points corresponding to 10%, 40%, 70%, and 90% of the functional length of the urethra in 25 women with stress-incontinence and were used to construct urethral closure pressure profiles.
