Actinomycosis of the urinary bladder is rare, mostly subsequent to abdomino-pelvic infection, and usually affects women with long-term use of an intrauterine device. We describe a case of vesical actinomycosis mimicking a papillary bladder tumour in a 56-year-old woman with primary manifestation of the disease in the genital tract, subjected to two transurethral resections after relapse of a polypoid mass in the bladder. Urological procedures are necessary to differentiate actinomycosis from bladder cancer and the diagnosis is often made histologically.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged urinary catheterisation is common amongst people in long-term care settings and this carries a high risk of developing a catheter-related urinary tract infection and associated complications. A variety of different kinds of urethral catheters are available. Some have been developed specifically to lower the risk of catheter-associated infection, for example antiseptic or antibiotic impregnated catheters. Metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to the urinary bladder is very rare. We present the case of a 58-year-old female patient who was diagnosed to have both HCC and cervical cancer. She developed hemorrhagic cystitis 2 years after radiation therapy for cervical cancer. A sigmoid tuberculosis is very rare. We report a case of sigmoid pseudotumoral tuberculosis with a fistulization into the urinary bladder in a 10-year-old girl. The diagnosis of tuberculosis was made by histopathological examination of the surgical specimen after segmental colectomy. Surgery completed by antitubercular chemotherapy gave a good result.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the clinical presentation and outcome of patients with high-grade bladder leiomyosarcoma.
METHODS: Between July 1986 and April 1998, 36 adult patients (mean follow-up 56 months) with a diagnosis of urinary bladder leiomyosarcoma were evaluated at the University of Texas M. D.
