We assessed the biological value of an okara diet and its effects on the hormonal and metabolic profile of rats submitted to protein restriction during intra-uterine life and lactation and recovered after weaning. Typical alcoholic liver damage was found in 204 cases among 1,000 consecutive liver biopsies. Using the classification of Roschlau, 43.6% of the livers were stage II. Most alcoholic liver disease occurred in men and women in the fifth decade of life. The frequency of alcoholic hepatitis appeared to be greater in the higher stages. Clinical and experimental evidence indicates that angiogenic imbalances may participate in the mechanisms of disease of several pregnancy complications, some of which may be life threatening. This article reviews current evidence in support of this view and the possibility that the fetus may play a central role in these imbalances; it also reviews recent experimental observations that modulation of angiogenic imbalances during pregnancy may have prophylactic and/or therapeutic value.

We studied the prognostic value of MRI in 32 radiographically normal, asymptomatic hips in 25 patients at risk of osteonecrosis from glucocorticoids or alcoholism. The early findings were band-like hypointense zones on spin-echo images. No operations were performed. Life-table survival curves showed that femoral heads in which the hypointense zone traversed the middle portion of the head were most at risk of subsequent segmental collapse.

Macrophage activation syndrome is the most frequent life-threatening complication of adult-onset Still's disease. This is a nearly fatal case of a young patient, which has been refractory to corticoste- roids, anakinra, tocilizumab, cyclosporine A, and etoposide, but eventually responded miraculously to salvage therapy with ruxolitinib. Malignant urachal lesions are exceedingly rare and occur predominantly in adult life. In this case report, an adult patient with urachal carcinoma is presented with abdominal plain film, intravenous urography, gray-scale ultrasonography (US), Doppler US, and computed tomography (CT). Doppler US successfully showed the neovascularity with low resistive index value in the urachus tumor. We believe that Doppler US examination is helpful in the differential diagnosis of urachal carcinoma.
