Accelerated healing of full-thickness skin wounds by multifunctional exosome-loaded scaffolds of alginate hydrogel/PCL nanofibers with hemostatic efficacy.

Although employing exosomes (EXOs) for promoting tissue repair is already in the pipeline as a new cell-free wound treatment, the rapid clearance of EXOs is still a challenge. This study assesses the effectiveness of a hybrid design of nanofibers and hydrogel in the controlled delivery of EXOs to wounds for an enhanced healing process. EXOs are isolated from the human placenta-derived stem cells and characterized by a novel nano-fluorescent dot blot assay. They are incorporated into an alginate hydrogel composited with a nanofibrous layer of poly(ε-caprolactone) to mimic the bilayer structure

Biosynthesized ZnO NPs loaded-electrospun PVA/sodium alginate/glycine nanofibers: synthesis, spinning optimization and antimicrobial activity evaluation.

In this work, microalgae-based zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded with electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/sodium alginate (SA) nanofibers were fabricated by electro-spinner. PVA/SA fibrous mats were crosslinked by citric acid, which enhanced their thermal stability and swelling behavior. Green-synthesized ZnO NPs were laboratory synthesized and characterized by FTIR, XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM and TGA analyses. Electrospinning of PVA/SA with optimized mixing ratios was further carried out with different ratios of ZnO NPs of (0.25, 0.50 and 0.75%, wt./v) to fabricate SA/PVA/ZnO composite nanofibers. The

Enhanced spinal cord injury repair by nerve extracellular matrix/carboxymethyl chitosan /oxidized alginate hydrogel containing OE-MSCs.

Hydrogels containing stem cells are a promising strategy to improve spinal cord injury (SCI) repair. Recent advances in tissue engineering have made cell-containing hydrogels more effective for achieving better regeneration outcomes. One such advancement is the incorporation of decellularized extracellular matrix (ECM) into hydrogels to develop a cell-compatible environment that mimics the mechanical and biological properties of native tissue ECM. Herein, a unique bioactive injectable hydrogel based on decellularized nerve ECM, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) and oxidized alginate (OA) was fabric

Fabrication of Double-Network Hydrogel Based on N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan, Aldehyde Hyaluronate, and Alginate for 3D Bio-Ink Applications.

This study fabricates and characterizes novel double-network hydrogels for 3D bio-ink applications, combining N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan (NOCC), aldehyde hyaluronate (AHy), and alginate (Alg). The initial Schiff base-cross-linked network (NOCC-AHy-Alg) is enhanced with a second ionic Ca2+ cross-linking, optimized via an internal suspension method (CaCO3/glucono-δ-lactone). Optimal parameters are 0.2 m CaCO3 and 0.1 m glucono-δ-lactone with a 1-h immersion, proving superior to external CaCl2 immersion. This internal approach yields a more robust network with improved compressive strength, dimen

The adsorption route and stabilization mechanism of Cd and Pb in soil from Pb-Zn smelter using ferrous sulfide coated with alginate.

Natural and synthetic ferrous sulfide (FeS) is commonly used in simultaneous stabilization of multi-heavy metal-contaminated soil due to its high selectivity. The coating of alginate on FeS (FeS@A) can enhance the activity and availability toward heavy metals (HMs). However, the quantified contributions of alginate and inner FeS to the adsorption/stabilization of HMs are still limited, which can provide the key information to stabilizer regulation. Two types of FeS@A with different coating of alginate were synthesized by using co-precipitation method. The enhanced dispersity, antioxidant perfo

Thermosensitive and mucoadhesive poloxamer 407/sodium alginate hydrogel loaded with spermidine for targeted autophagy activation and mucosal repair in ulcerative colitis.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by the superficial mucosa ulcer and inflammation. Spermidine (SPD) has been demonstrated to alleviate the relapse of acute colitis without the systemic immune function compromise via restoring the intestinal mucosal barrier. However, due to its rapid systemic absorption in small intestine and extensive metabolism in liver, the orally administered spermidine had limited access to the diseased colon. Herein, a thermosensitive and mucoadhesive hydrogel (PA) composed of poloxamer 407 and sodium alginate has been develope

OBJECTIVE: Infertility is a significant public health concern affecting 10-15 % of couples. Young women undergoing gonadotoxic treatment are at higher risk of ovarian dysfunction and infertility. To mitigate this risk, ovarian tissue freezing and transplantation have been developed as a novel strategy. However, challenges such as follicular loss and dysfunction during the freezing process, and ovarian damage during transplantation, persist. This study aimed to investigate the potential of using appropriate antifreeze, antioxidant, wound healing, and biological hydrogels to reduce these injurie

Fe, N-CQDs triggered the fabrication of alginate encapsulated g-C3N4 hydrogel for efficient photocatalytic activation of PMS and antibiotic degradation.

Carbon dots (CDs) mediated g-C3N4 (CN) is a promising visible-light-driven semiconductor in catalyzing peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for aqueous contaminants remediation. However, the poor dispersibility of powered catalyst and its challenging recyclability impede their broader application. Herein, we embedded FeN bridge within the g-C3N4 framework and immobilized g-C3N4 gel beads (CA/FNCCN) through a 3D cross-linking process with sodium alginate. Alginate can serve as a stabilizing carrier, preserving the crystalline structure of FNCCN through the formation of H bonds between alginate and FNCCN. Th

Oxidized sodium alginate hydrogel-mouse nerve growth factor sustained release system promotes repair of peripheral nerve injury.

In recent years, mouse nerve growth factor (mNGF) has emerged as an important biological regulator to repair peripheral nerve injury, but its systemic application is restricted by low efficiency and large dosage requirement. These limitations prompted us to search for biomaterials that can be locally loaded. Oxidized sodium alginate hydrogel (OSA) exhibits good biocompatibility and physicochemical properties, and can be loaded with drugs to construct a sustained-release system that can act locally on nerve injury. Here, we constructed a sustained-release system of OSA-mouse nerve growth factor

Layer-by-layer assembly of modified halloysite nanotube using chitosan and sodium alginate to control the release of carvacrol and improve its stability.

This study focused on the encapsulation of modified halloysite nanotubes (AHNT) using sodium alginate (SA) and chitosan (CS) through a layer-by-layer assembly technique. The objective was to develop new composites (CPs) that could control the release of carvacrol (Car) and enhance its stability. The influence of various conditions on the microstructure, chemical properties, and slow-release effects of the CPs was examined by adjusting the pH and concentration of the CS solution. The results indicated that the CPs (CS4.5-1), created with a CS solution concentration of 1 mg/mL at a pH of 4.5, in

Maintaining the Cartilage Phenotype of Late-Passage Chondrocytes Using Salidroside, TGF-β, and Sulfated Alginate for Cartilage Tissue Engineering Applications.

The limited self-repair capacity of cartilage due to its avascular and aneural nature leads to minimal regenerative ability. Autologous chondrocyte transplantation (ACT) is a popular treatment for cartilage defects but faces challenges due to chondrocyte dedifferentiation in later passages, which results in undesirable fibroblastic phenotypes. A promising treatment for cartilage injuries and diseases involves tissue engineering using cells (e.g., chondrocytes), scaffolds (e.g., Alginate Sulfate (AlgSulf)), and biochemical signals (e.g., Salidroside and TGF-β). This study focuses on investigati
