New nanometer Cu(II)-benzohydrazide complexes were synthesized and characterized. Mono negative tetra-dentate mode is the general feature proposed for all coordinating ligands. We present a patient with thalassemia major who developed a gastric ulcer, probably related to the use of deferasirox. Although gastric ulcer is mentioned as infrequent adverse event in the scientific product information of deferasirox, in our current knowledge, this is the first case-report on this adverse drug reaction. The severity of this event justifies the reporting of this case.

We examined effects of trimebutine maleate on the membrane currents of the intestinal smooth muscle cells by using the tight-seal whole cell clamp technique. Trimebutine suppressed the Ba2+ inward current through voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels in a dose-dependent manner. The synthesis and potent fasciolicidal activity of novel salicylanilides, with benzoyl substituents in the salicyl ring, is described. Several compounds surpassed the activity of commercially used flukicides against Fasciola hepatica infections in rats. Compounds 10, 11, and 15 were poorly active against the parasite in sheep and inactive in infected calves.
