Results of HemiCAP® Implantation as a Salvage Procedure for Osteochondral Lesions of the Talus.

Osteochondral defects (OCDs) of the talus remain a surgical challenge, especially after failed primary treatment. The aim of the present study was to examine the clinical outcomes after HemiCAP® implantation for OCDs of the medial talar dome after failed previous surgery. Our retrospective study included 11 patients, who had undergone surgery from June 2009 to September 2012 for an OCD of the medial talar dome and received a HemiCAP® on the talus after failed previous surgery for OCD. The data were acquired using patients' medical records and standardized questionnaires, including the Foot and

Seasonal variation of BMI at admission in German adolescents with anorexia nervosa.

OBJECTIVE: Recent preliminary studies indicated a seasonal association of BMI at admission to inpatient treatment for anorexia nervosa (AN), … and might be subject to other biological or psychological factors, for example physical activity or body dissatisfaction. Our results indicate only a small clinical relevance of seasonal associations of BMI-SDS merely at admission. Longitudinal studies investigating within-subject seasonal changes might be more promising to assess seasonality in AN and of higher clini …

Quality of life and patient satisfaction in patients with atrial fibrillation on stable vitamin K antagonist treatment or switched to a non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant during a 1-year follow-up: A PREFER in AF Registry substudy.

BACKGROUND: Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are being introduced for stroke prevention in non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation (AF), and promise to be accepted better than Vitamin K Antagonists (VKAs) by patients, improving their Quality of Life (QoL). AIM: To assess to what extent patient-related factors influence decisions to switch from a VKA to a NOAC. METHODS: The PREFER in AF Registry collected data at baseline in 2012 - at the beginning of NOAC prescriptions - and at 1-year follow-up, in 6412 patients in seven Western European countries. QoL and patient satisfaction q

Patient Satisfaction and Quality of Life After Mastectomy at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah.

Background Overall well-being after surgical intervention is one of the most important aspects of assessing quality of life (QOL), yet it is not well explored in the literature. In this paper, it was necessary to involve the patient's perspective of the nature of their QOL. The burden of being diagnosed with breast cancer is an adaptation to a new lifestyle, having to deal with disease stigma, interpersonal relations problems, and being limited to specific clothing. This can be very challenging for patients. This study aims to identify which patient group, based on their treatment regimen, exh

A Systematic Review of Screen Time and Obesity in Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults: Sex-Specific Pathways and Implications for Public Health Interventions.

INTRODUCTION: Screen time is associated with multiple adverse health outcomes, including obesity. However, evidence for children and adolescents is limited and inconsistent, and potential sex-specific differences have not been characterized. This systematic review aimed to synthesize evidence on the association between screen time and obesity-related outcomes among children, adolescents, and young adults, with a focus on sex-specific pathways and implications for public health interventions. METHODS: This systematic review followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Ana

Quality of life in children and adults with epidermolysis bullosa: the QoL-REB explorative study.

BACKGROUND: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare inherited disorder characterized by skin and mucosal fragility, with severe implications for physical, psychological, and social well-being. Research on quality of life (QoL) in EB remains limited, particularly in Italy, where systematic patient-reported outcome measures are lacking. To address this gap, Fondazione REB ETS developed a patient-centered QoL questionnaire (QoL-REB) constructed directly by patients and caregivers, with support from clinicians and researchers. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey between March and A

Evaluation of a novel robotic testing method for stability and kinematics of total knee arthroplasty.

PURPOSE: This work developed a novel preclinical test of total knee replacements (TKRs) in order to explain TKR instability linked to patient dissatisfaction. It was hypothesized that stability tests on the isolated moving prostheses would provide novel comparative data on the stability and kinematics among TKR designs. METHODS: Three TKR designs, DePuy Synthes Attune MS, Stryker Triathlon and Zimmer Biomet Persona MC, were assessed using a robotic arm while flexing-extending 0-140°. Tests imposed 710 N body weight combined with three tibial loads: no anterior-posterior (AP) force, 90 N anter

Qualitative analysis of patient interviews on the burden of neuronopathic Gaucher disease in Japan.

BACKGROUND: Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare, autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder that adversely affects life expectancy and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Although HRQOL questionnaires are available for type 1 GD, they are not suitable for patients with the neuronopathic types 2 and 3 GD who have neurological symptoms that develop during early childhood or adolescence. Here we report the development of a language-validated HRQOL questionnaire specifically for patients with neuronopathic types 2 and 3 GD in Japan, which is the first step toward HRQOL questionnaire provision f

Associations between symptom change and treatment satisfaction in specialized eating disorder treatment.

BACKGROUND: Patients receiving treatment for eating disorders often report dissatisfaction and negative treatment experiences, which may partly reflect the egosyntonic nature of these illnesses. This study aimed to examine different aspects of treatment satisfaction among patients receiving specialized eating disorder treatment, both inpatient and outpatient, and to investigate whether clinical outcomes were associated with treatment satisfaction. METHODS: The sample consisted of 774 patients from Norway, adolecents and adults, all diagnosed with an ICD-10 eating disorder including anorexia n

Association of Radiologic and Clinical Outcomes After Chevron Osteotomy Treatment of Hallux Valgus: Average 6.5-Year Follow-Up Study in Women.

BACKGROUND: Hallux valgus, the most common forefoot deformity, frequently leads to corrective foot surgery. Despite high surgical rates, patient dissatisfaction remains prevalent, and its causes are unclear. Surgeons often focus on radiologic corrections, assuming greater corrections yield higher satisfaction. This study aimed to investigate whether traditional radiologic measurements, rotational parameters associated with first metatarsal pronation (eg, lateral head shape and tibial sesamoid position), and routinely collected demographic variables (eg, age, body mass index [BMI], occupational

Family relationships and personality traits of postural tachycardia syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Orthostatic intolerance is the name of the disease in Europe and the United States; however, in Japan, it is commonly known as orthostatic dysregulation (OD). OD is a physical disorder caused by failure of the body's compensatory regulatory mechanism to adapt to changes in circulatory dynamics during orthostasis; however, in many cases, the influence of psychosocial factors has been noted. The mother-child relationship is a major psychosocial factor in children, and it has been reported that parent-child patterns associated with OD are often excessive parental interference and ch
