Because of its benign nature and rarity, circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH) often receives limited attention, leading to a high rate of misdiagnosis and a lack of standardized treatment protocols. We provide a thorough clarification of the demographics, clinical features, diagnosis, management, and prognosis of CCH. The International Myeloma Working Group has recently revised the diagnostic criteria for primary plasma cell leukemia (PCL) to circulating plasma cells (CPCs) ≥ 5% in a peripheral blood smear. To determine the response rate of choroidal melanoma following primary photodynamic therapy, we conducted a meta-analysis of published studies. A total of 7 studies reporting photodynamic therapy as primary treatment of choroidal melanoma in 162 patients with a mean tumor height of 2.8 mm (1.4 to 4.2) were identified. A 32-year-old Asian-Indian woman presented with painless diminution of vision in her left eye (oculus sinister (OS)) and fundus examination OS revealed a large dome-shaped orangish-red subretinal lesion at the macula along with a smaller lesion on the superotemporal arcade. Indocyanine green angiography and optical coherence tomography features confirmed the diagnosis of multifocal circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH). There was no evidence of Sturge-Weber syndrome. CCH is usually solitary with only one reported case of multifocal CCH in the literature.

CASE REPORT: We describe the clinical presentation of a choroidal amelanotic melanoma in a 46-year-old woman with oculocutaneous albinism. Clinical aspects, investigations, and management are presented, and findings from computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are described. Microscopic findings and histopathological features, demonstrating a spindle B-cell melanoma of the choroid, are also reviewed.
COMMENTS: Magnetic resonance imaging may be helpful in diagnosing amelanotic melanoma in patients with oculocutaneous albinism.
