Integrative Profiling of Antimicrobial Resistance Risks in a Philippine Peri-Urban Community: Insights From Clinical Data, Wastewater Analysis and Community Engagement.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health threat, particularly in low- and middle-income countries such as the Philippines, where limited resources and regulatory challenges heighten the risk. Community-level assessments are critical for developing a context-specific evidence base that informs local decision-making. This study assessed the community AMR risk in a peri-urban community (Mandug, Davao City, Philippines) using an integrated approach that combined wastewater detection of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), community survey and interviews on knowledge, practices,

Complex, multilevel barriers and solutions for nutrition security in the USA: a community-based participatory research approach.

INTRODUCTION: While 86% of US households are food secure, nutritional quality remains poor. Minimal research has been conducted to identify and address the complex, multilevel barriers and solutions for nutrition security in local communities. METHODS: We employed a mixed-methods community-based participatory research approach to better understand nutrition security by identifying multilevel barriers and potential solutions from the perspectives of 35 low-income community residents, 27 food system workers and 7 local policy-makers in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. RESULTS: Four themes emer

Economic analysis of a low-threshold mobile medical unit dispensing buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.

BACKGROUND: The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Community Outreach Intervention Project (COIP) established a low-threshold mobile medical unit that is among the first to carry and dispense buprenorphine on-site at point of care in Chicago neighborhoods with high opioid overdose rates. A deeper understanding of the mobile medical unit implementation and operation costs is needed to inform sustainability and financial planning for healthcare systems across the country. This study measured the implementation, operation, and indirect patient costs of the UIC COIP mobile medical unit. METHODS

Psychosocial and economic factors related to better health among older adults in Europe - a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Healthy and positive aging are increasingly recognized in public health as multidimensional processes that integrate physical, psychological, and social resources to support autonomy, active engagement, and quality of life in later life. This systematic review synthesizes recent European evidence on psychosocial and socioeconomic determinants of healthy aging among older adults and contributes to the conceptualization of positive aging from a public health perspective. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase identified empirical studies published in En

Research prioritization through prediction of future impact on biomedical science: a position paper on inference-analytics.

BackgroundAdvances in biotechnology have created "big-data" situations in molecular and cellular biology. Several sophisticated algorithms have been developed that process big data to generate hundreds of biomedical hypotheses (or predictions). The bottleneck to translating this large number of biological hypotheses is that each of them needs to be studied by experimentation for interpreting its functional significance. Even when the predictions are estimated to be very accurate, from a biologist's perspective, the choice of which of these predictions is to be studied further is made based on

Improvement in health and empowerment of families as a result of watershed management in a tribal area in India - a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Tribal people in India, as in other parts of the world, reside mostly in forests and/or hilly terrains. Water scarcity and health problems related to it are their prime concern. Watershed management can contribute to resolve their health related problems and can put them on a path of socio-economic development. Integrated management of land, water and biomass resources within a watershed, i.e. in an area or a region which contributes rainfall water to a river or lake, is referred to as watershed management. Watershed management includes soil and water conservation to create water r

Analysis of niche and interspecific associations of dominant associated species in the community of the rare and endangered plant Clematis tientaiensis.

Clematis tientaiensis is a rare and endangered plant species endemic to Zhejiang Province, China, characterized by weak natural regeneration and a scarce extant population. To elucidate its endangerment mechanisms and formulate scientific conservation strategies, this study collected data from its natural community using the quadrat sampling method, with C. tientaiensis and its associated dominant species from the shrub layer (n = 19) and herb layer (n = 19) as the research subjects. By comprehensively applying niche analysis (niche breadth and overlap), interspecific association tests (overal

A comparison of different community models of antiretroviral therapy delivery with the standard of care among stable HIV+ patients: rationale and design of a non-inferiority cluster randomized trial, nested in the HPTN 071 (PopART) study.

BACKGROUND: Following the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2015 guidelines recommending initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) irrespective of CD4 count for all people living with HIV (PLHIV), many countries in sub-Saharan Africa have adopted this strategy to reach epidemic control. As the number of PLHIV on ART rises, maintenance of viral suppression on ART for over 90% of PLHIV remains a challenge to government health systems in resource-limited high HIV burden settings. Non facility-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) delivery for stable HIV+ patients may increase sustainable ART covera

An alternative management of older children with persisting communication problems.

Speech and language deficits frequently implicate accompanying psychosocial problems (such as low self-esteem). An alternative management approach is described which adopts a holistic paradigm and provides a unique opportunity for intensive work on communication within a supportive environment. The residential programme for 8-14 year olds with persistent communication difficulties incorporated cognitive, emotional and psychosocial dimensions of communication, co-ordinated with work on speech features. Although the programmes were developed for children with cleft palate, they have potential fo

Investigating the revised international marketing strategies during COVID-19 based on resources and capabilities of the firms: A mixed method approach.

This paper aims to identify the revised international marketing strategies in communication during the COVID-19 pandemic by utilizing the firm's resources and capabilities. We conducted in-depth interviews and a questionnaire survey with key stakeholders of retail organizations which changed their digital marketing strategies during COVID-19. The data is collected from 587 respondents from different parts of the world through resource orchestration theory. The qualitative findings support a high degree of association among the firm's resources and capabilities, leveraging processes based on th

From Consultation to Partnership: Leadership for Patient, Family, and Community Engagement in People-Centred Health Systems in LMICs: A Narrative Review.

People-centred health systems depend on more than inviting patients, families, and communities to provide feedback. Meaningful engagement requires opportunities for people to influence decisions and healthcare organizations that can respond to their priorities. This structured narrative review used targeted searches of PubMed-indexed literature and World Health Organization sources to identify relevant reviews, health-systems studies, and recent evidence. The synthesis focused on leadership approaches that support a shift from one-way consultation to meaningful partnership in low- and middle-i

Practical Strategies to Optimize Cognitive-Communication Intervention in Complex Real-World Conditions: A Life Integration Approach.

PURPOSE: Cognitive-communication intervention (CCI) service gaps compromise quality of life for individuals with acquired brain injuries. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) must examine barriers to care and develop solutions to address current problems in awareness of cognitive-communication disorders, understanding of SLP services, access and referral mechanisms, and care pathways. They must also adapt CCI to the complexities and constraints of daily life. In this article, we explore actions that clinical SLPs can take to overcome service barriers and advocate for fair, timely, and evidence-

Crush syndrome diagnosis and management in resource-constrained settings: A Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Crush syndrome is an important source of morbidity and mortality in resource-constrained settings including earthquake disaster zones, austere military environments, and countries where motor vehicle collisions and interpersonal violence are prevalent. In South Africa and other countries with high rates of community violence, patients develop crush due to a unique form of trauma called community assault, where individuals suspected of wrongdoing are assaulted by multiple persons as a form of mob justice. The purpose of this study is to generate consensus about crush syndrome defini

Modelling enablers and barriers to improve uptake of a fruit and vegetable voucher scheme (the fresh street community) in England: a TISM-MICMAC approach.

BACKGROUND: Improving equitable access to fresh fruit and vegetables (FV) remains a critical public health priority in the UK, particularly in low-income communities where affordability, accessibility, and social barriers limit healthy food choices. The Fresh Street Community scheme, a place-based FV voucher initiative in England, aims to enhance dietary equity by enabling households to purchase fresh produce from local community centres. Building on prior feasibility research, this study applies a systems-modelling approach to explore how multiple enablers and barriers interact to influence s
