Atopic Dermatitis Associated Retinal Detachment and Retinal Vasculitis: A Case Report.

Atopic dermatitis is usually associated with various ocular complications. We report a 21-year-old Chinese male who presented to our ophthalmology clinic with bilateral retinal detachment and cataracts. The patient had a clear medical history of atopic dermatitis, which had been diagnosed eight years earlier and had been treated with loratadine and pimecrolimus. Cataract surgery was performed for both eyes, combined with scleral buckling for the right eye and pars plana vitrectomy for the left eye. During postoperative follow-up, fundus fluorescein angiography showed retinal vasculitis in both

Preventing NLRP3 inflammasome activation: Therapeutic atrategy and challenges in atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent inflammatory skin disorder characterized by its chronic, persistent, and recurrent nature. The pathophysiology of this condition is complex, involving various factors including cell-mediated immune responses, compromised skin barrier function, and alterations in hypersensitivity reactions. These components synergistically contribute to the perpetuation of the bothersome "itch-scratch-itch" cycle. Recent research has highlighted the significant role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the development of AD and other inflammatory conditions. Current research indica

Presentations of Cutaneous Disease in Various Skin Pigmentations: Chronic Atopic Dermatitis.

Description Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder classically affecting flexural areas of the body. It is present in children and adults, including those with darker skin pigmentation. Chronic lesions are hyperpigmented plaques that are dry, cracked, and/or scaly often with lichenification. Differential diagnoses include psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, ichthyosis, and pityriasis rosea. This article will showcase clinical images with varying presentations of chronic atopic dermatitis in a range of age groups and skin colors according to the Fitzpatrick scale.

Navigating the atopic dermatitis toolbox: Challenging scenarios and shared decision-making.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease with a complex pathogenesis and heterogeneous clinical presentation. Recently, multiple advanced therapies were approved for the treatment of moderate-severe AD, including the biologics dupilumab, tralokinumab, and lebrikizumab and oral Janus kinase inhibitors abrocitinib, upadacitinib, and baricitinib. These treatments have different efficacy, safety, and tolerability profiles and monitoring requirements. The availability of multiple recently approved therapies poses a clinical challenge for health care providers and patients on how to

Qingre Qushi formula suppresses atopic dermatitis via a multi-target mechanism.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Our previous studies have shown that the Qingre Qushi (QRQS) formula can treat atopic dermatitis (AD), and its possible mechanism is related to the regulation of the IL-33/ST2 signaling pathway. However, the molecular mechanism of AD is complex, and various AD subtypes respond better to therapies aimed at distinct targets. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to investigate the multi-target mechanism of QRQS using experimental and network pharmacology studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Flaky tail (FT) mice were treated with different concentrations of QRQS and ceti

Abnormal brain structure in atopic dermatitis: Evidence from Mendelian randomization study.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Structural abnormalities in the brain of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) have been reported; however, the cause has not been determined yet. Herein, we used Mendelian randomization (MR) to reveal the causal effect of AD on brain structure. METHODS: This study utilized summary statistics from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) to investigate a collection of cerebral structural measures, encompassing cortical thickness (CT), cortical surface area (CA), and subcortical volumes in T1 images. A comprehensive GWAS meta-analysis identified a total of 20 independent single nucle

Association between atopic dermatitis, autoimmune illnesses, Epstein-Barr virus, and cytomegalovirus.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a Th2-driven inflammatory skin disease that has been associated with other autoimmune illnesses (AI) and has a well-known predisposition to infection with herpes simplex virus infection. Yet, few studies have evaluated the association between atopic dermatitis, autoimmune illness, and other human herpes virus (HHV) infections such as cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). We aimed to evaluate the association between AD, specific AIs, CMV, and EBV in a random sample of the Optum Clinformatics Data Mart database, a US administrative claims database. AD was

Cutaneous dysbiosis may amplify barrier dysfunction in patients with atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is associated with cutaneous dysbiosis, barrier defects, and immune dysregulation, but the interplay between these factors needs further study. Early-onset barrier dysfunction may facilitate an innate immune response to commensal organisms and, consequently, the development of allergic sensitization. We aimed to compare the cutaneous microbiome in patients with active dermatitis with and without a history of childhood flexural dermatitis (atopic dermatitis). Next-gen Ion-Torrent deep-sequencing identified AD-associated changes in the skin bacterial microbiome ("bacteriom

Post-Translational Modifications in Atopic Dermatitis: Current Research and Clinical Relevance.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing cutaneous disorder characterized by compromised immune system, excessive inflammation, and skin barrier disruption. Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are covalent and enzymatic modifications of proteins after their translation, which have been reported to play roles in inflammatory and allergic diseases. However, less attention has been paid to the effect of PTMs on AD. This review summarized the knowledge of six major classes (including phosphorylation, acetylation, ubiquitination, SUMOylation, glycosylation, o-glycosylation, and glycati

Concurrent Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis Vulgaris: Implications for Targeted Biologic Therapy.

Psoriasis vulgaris, a helper T cell TH1/TH17-mediated inflammatory dermatosis, may be effectively treated with biologic medications such as secukinumab, an IL-17A inhibitor. However, suppression of the TH1-mediated axis may result in the paradoxical appearance of TH2-mediated inflammatory skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis (AD). Dupilumab, a biologic medication that inhibits IL-4/IL-13-cytokines involved in TH2-mediated inflammation-has demonstrated efficacy in treating AD but may result in phenotypic switching to psoriasis. We describe a patient with psoriasis that was well controlled

Atopic dermatitis and risk of autoimmune conditions: Population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is associated with immune dysregulation, but epidemiologic data on the pattern of autoimmune comorbidity in people with AD are limited. OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine the risk of autoimmune conditions in people newly diagnosed with AD. METHODS: Retrospective cohort analysis (January 2009 to December 2018), using the UK-based Oxford-Royal College of General Practitioners Research and Surveillance Centre primary care database. We compared baseline prevalence and incidence after diagnosis of autoimmune conditions in 173,709 children and adults with new-onse

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and concomitant atopic dermatitis responding to dupilumab.

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) represents a diagnostic challenge because of its large symptomatic overlap with other common skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis. Dupilumab has offered promising results in AD treatment; however, concerns exist that its use may exacerbate undiagnosed CTCL. We present a patient with CTCL and concomitant AD who experienced improvement in both CTCL blood involvement and AD following the addition of dupilumab therapy.

Protease-Activated Receptor-2 Regulates Neuro-Epidermal Communication in Atopic Dermatitis.

Background: Activation of protease-activated receptor-2 (PAR2) has been implicated in inflammation, pruritus, and skin barrier regulation, all characteristics of atopic dermatitis (AD), as well as Netherton syndrome which has similar characteristics. However, understanding the precise role of PAR2 on neuro-immune communication in AD has been hampered by the lack of appropriate animal models. Methods: We used a recently established mouse model with epidermal overexpression of PAR2 (PAR2OE) and littermate WT mice to study the impact of increased PAR2 expression in epidermal cells on spontaneous

Metabolomics Distinguishes DOCK8 Deficiency from Atopic Dermatitis: Towards a Biomarker Discovery.

Bi-allelic mutations in the dedicator of cytokinesis 8 (DOCK8) are responsible for a rare autosomal recessive primary combined immunodeficiency syndrome, characterized by atopic dermatitis, elevated serum Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, recurrent severe cutaneous viral infections, autoimmunity, and predisposition to malignancy. The molecular link between DOCK8 deficiency and atopic skin inflammation remains unknown. Severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and DOCK8 deficiency share some clinical symptoms, including eczema, eosinophilia, and increased serum IgE levels. Increased serum IgE levels are chara
