Chronic eosinophilic leukaemia presenting with erythroderma, mild eosinophilia and hyper-IgE: clinical, immunological and cytogenetic features and therapeutic approach. A case report.

A 23-year-old, white male metallurgist presented with pruritic erythematous maculo-papules over the trunk and upper limbs and 6 months later developed erythroderma, eosinophilia and multi-organ dysfunction. A diagnosis of chronic eosinophilic leukaemia was made on the basis of myeloproliferative involvement of both peripheral blood and bone marrow, associated with eosinophilic differentiation and a t(5;12)(q33;p13) translocation. The initial therapeutic approach was interferon alfa-2b plus cytosine arabinoside, for 13 months, followed by hydroxyurea plus vincristine. There was improvement of s

Staphylococcus aureus colonization of burrows in erythrodermic Norwegian scabies. A case study of iatrogenic contagion.

Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated extensive bacterial colonization of scabies burrows honeycombing the stratum corneum of an elderly woman with erythroderma. Cultures of scybala revealed hemolytic Staphylococcus aureus, possibly responsible for the erythroderma. Epidemiologic data revealed a trail of scabies through two nursing homes and one hospital during the 2-year period that physicians believed she had a drug-induced erythroderma.

[Lyell's acute epidermal necrosis or bullous erythroderma with Debré-Lamy-Lamotte epidermolysis].

Acute epidermal necrosis is an exceptionally serious condition whose onset, which is sometimes preceded by a few prodomes, is marked by an eruption mainly around the orifices and rapidly extending to the whole of the tegument. Epidermal necrosis results in extensive shedding of the skin and within the space of a few hours gives the patient the appearance of having been scalded. In adults, drugs and in particular certain combinations of drugs, are responsible; the drugs mainly involved are the sulfonamides, especially delayed action sulfonamides, derivatives of butazolidine, Barbiturates, Pheni

Netherton Syndrome in a preterm newborn presenting with erythroderma and temperature instability: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal erythroderma has a broad differential and poses a diagnostic challenge due to clinical overlap between diagnoses. Netherton Syndrome, also known as SPINK5-syndromic epidermal differentiation disorder (SPINK5-sEDD), is a genodermatosis caused by mutations in the serine protease inhibitor Kazal-type 5 (SPINK5) gene located on chromosome 5q31–32. The clinical presentation varies widely, ranging from mild dermatitis to severe neonatal disease with life-threatening metabolic instability and sepsis. Diagnosis is confirmed by genetic testing, and management includes a multidiscip

Erythroderma: a prospective study of 309 patients followed for 12 years in a tertiary center.

Erythroderma is characterized by erythema and scaling affecting more than 80% of the body surface area. It is potentially life-threatening, and diagnosis of the underlying disease is a challenge. Despite laboratory improvements, many cases remain idiopathic. We aimed to analyze clinical and laboratory findings of 309 erythrodermic patients to find clues to the etiologic diagnosis. We performed a prospective study at the University of São Paulo Medical School, from 2007 to 2018, with patients with acquired erythroderma. Clinical, laboratory, histology, and molecular biology data were collected.

An Elusive Case of Mycosis Fungoides: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Erythroderma refers to a spectrum of skin diseases resulting in diffuse erythema and scaling encompassing ≥ 90% of the body surface area. The differential diagnosis ranges from primary dermatologic diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis to potentially deadly causes such as staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and malignancy. Cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL) is an uncommon but highly morbid cause of erythroderma. This non-Hodgkin lymphoma remains a diagnostic challenge due to its variable clinical presentation and varied histologic features. Mycosis fungoid
