Sex Differences in Risk Factors for Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Korean Adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to examine sex differences in the risk factors associated with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) among Korean adolescents to provide insights for drafting more effective prevention strategies. METHODS: Data from 51845 middle and high school students in the 18th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey were analyzed. GAD was assessed using the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder tool, and factors such as grade, academic performance, economic status, living arrangements, smoking, drinking, sexual experience, and physical activity were included. The prevalence of

Thirteen women between the ages of 26 and 43 participated in the study. In this study, manifest content analysis was carried out with an inductive perspective. In this scope, five interrelated themes emerged as loss, initial reactions, difficulties, coping ways, and change. For the participants, the death of their spouse was per

Toward a comprehensive life-cycle carcinogenic impact assessment: A statistical regression approach based on cancer burden.

The current approach to life cycle carcinogenic impact assessment (LCCA) is hindered by its static and linear characteristics. This situation prevents the accurate prediction of the incidence, associated damage, and potential economic burden of cancer. This study explores a highly comprehensive pathway for LCCA assessment. It uses the impacts of Tracheal, bronchus, and lung (TBL) predicted by the LCCA of China's coal power industry through a screened statistical regression model as the research target. The latest global burden of disease estimates is utilized to quantify the health damage from

MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was a cross-sectional study that was performed on 200 children in Isfahan in 2021. The instrument in this study was

Demand and cross-price elasticity of cocaine and social contact in a free-operant procedure of nonexclusive choice.

Research examining the social determinants of addiction has advanced significantly with the recent development of preclinical models of drug use and the social environment. These models reveal that drug use and social contact compete with one another for behavioral expression in discrete-trial choice procedures using concurrent schedules of reinforcement. The purpose of this study was to determine how concurrent access to cocaine and a social partner influences the demand for each alternative under free-operant conditions in which responding maintained by each reinforcer is independent and non

Editorial: The Long-term Impact of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Lessons From the Past and Directions for the Future.

In this issue of the Journal, Cherkasova et al.1 provide a unique synthesis of 7 prospective longitudinal cohorts of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), all followed into adult life. The authors focus on a diverse range of outcome domains: educational performance, occupational/economic functioning, mental health, physical health, substance use, antisocial behavior, and driving. These not only are important for the quality of life and well-being of people with ADHD, but also have implications for health service use and the wider economic impact on society. Each cohort

Addressing inequities in COVID-19 morbidity and mortality: research and policy recommendations.

The COVID-19 pandemic is the greatest global public health crisis since the 1918 influenza outbreak. As of early June, the novel coronavirus has infected more than 6.3 million people worldwide and more than 1.9 million in the United States (US). The total number of recorded deaths due to COVID-19 are growing at an alarming rate globally (³383,000) and nationally (³109,000) Evidence is mounting regarding the heavier burden of COVID-19 infection, morbidity, and mortality on the underserved populations in the US. This commentary focuses on this global health pandemic and how mitigation of the vir

Recurrent diabetic ketoacidosis.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to examine risk factors for recurrence of diabetic ketoacidosis and determine interventions to prevent future admissions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Review article. RESULTS: Recurrent diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious and not uncommon health problem. Diabetic ketoacidosis is associated with severe morbidity and mortality and hospital admissions due to this problem constitute a serious economic burden on the healthcare system. Younger age at diabetic ketoacidosis onset, poor baseline glycemic control and elevated HbA1C, patient comorbidities, depression, a

National- and state-level impact and cost-effectiveness of nonavalent HPV vaccination in the United States.

Every year in the United States more than 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer, a disease principally caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Bivalent and quadrivalent HPV vaccines protect against 66% of HPV-associated cervical cancers, and a new nonavalent vaccine protects against an additional 15% of cervical cancers. However, vaccination policy varies across states, and migration between states interdependently dilutes state-specific vaccination policies. To quantify the economic and epidemiological impacts of switching to the nonavalent vaccine both for individual states and for t

Oxidative desulfurization: kinetic modelling.

Increasing environmental legislations coupled with enhanced production of petroleum products demand, the deployment of novel technologies to remove organic sulfur efficiently. This work represents the kinetic modeling of ODS using H(2)O(2) over tungsten-containing layered double hydroxide (LDH) using the experimental data provided by Hulea et al. [V. Hulea, A.L. Maciuca, F. Fajula, E. Dumitriu, Catalytic oxidation of thiophenes and thioethers with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of W-containing layered double hydroxides, Appl. Catal. Factors contributing to the occurrence of emerging infectious diseases.

Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) have been receiving increasing attention for more than two decades. Such attention has resulted from observations of increasing resistance of microorganisms to the usual antibiotics, the identification of formerly unknown disease agents and the diseases they cause, and the realization that the concept of globalization includes global exposure to disease agents formerly confined to small, endemic, or remote areas. Sadly, in the fall of 2001, the potential for using microbial agents as instruments of terror and destruction became obvious with the incidents of

Exploring the drivers of suicide among individuals served by a medical university in Southeastern Iran: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Suicide remains a leading cause of death worldwide and a critical global public health concern. Although the majority of suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), prevention in these contexts is often hampered by limited mental health infrastructure, entrenched stigma, and systemic barriers. In Iran, although the national suicide mortality rate remains comparatively low, a growing trend in suicide attempts—especially among youth—has raised concern. However, little is known about the sociocultural and structural drivers of suicidal behavior in underserved regions s

Depression, injecting drug use, and risky sexual behavior syndemic among women who inject drugs in Kenya: a cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Injecting drug use (IDU) is a key driver of the HIV epidemic particularly when individuals experience psychosocial conditions and risky sexual behavior in a syndemic manner. This study sets out to assess evidence of a syndemic pattern of psychosocial conditions (IDU, depression, intimate partner violence (IPV)) on one the hand and risky sexual behavior on the other while accounting for the socio-economic disadvantage among women who inject drugs (WWID) in low-income urban settings in Kenya. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional study design, this study recruited 306 WWIDs from two site

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Behavioral Nudges to Improve Enrollment in Critical Care Trials.

Rationale: Low and slow patient enrollment remains a barrier to critical care randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Behavioral economic insights suggest that nudges may address some enrollment challenges. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of a novel preconsent survey consisting of nudges on critical care RCT enrollment. Methods: We conducted an RCT in 10 intensive care units (ICUs) among surrogate decision-makers (SDMs). The novel multicomponent behavioral nudge survey was administered immediately before soliciting SDMs' informed consent for their patients' participation in a sham trial of two
