In our follow-up examination of about 500 children suffering from thalidomide embryopathy we have studied the results of conservative and operative treatment of club hand. The results of treatment have not corresponded to the prognosis with regard to function. In our opinion the possibility of operative treatment should not be considered until growth of the ulna ceases.

Because of their low incidence, studies about carpal fractures are rare. The aim of the present study was to analyze epidemiology and treatment of fractured carpal bones. We retrospectively analyzed data of 178 patients admitted to our emergency room with carpal fractures over 6 years. More males than woman were injured. In 91%, a CT scan was performed. The most commonly affected bone was the triquetrum followed by the scaphoid. Between 2018 and 2020, 14 patients with closed metacarpal fractures requiring open reduction were operated on via a palmar approach. Reduction and fixation were done with screws or plates. We assessed range of motion, grip strength, Mayo score, possible nerve damage and cosmesis. The range of motion and grip strength were fully restored by 6 months after operation. Transient paraesthesiae in the digital nerve territory occurred in two patients and had resolved by 3 months. CASE: A 25-year-old professional boxer presented with a right distal flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon avulsion after sustaining an injury while boxing. The avulsion was identified and confirmed with magnetic resonance imaging, and the tendon was successfully reinserted into the trapezium. The patient returned to professional boxing 10 months later without complication.
CONCLUSIONS: Distal FCR tendon avulsions are rare. Occasionally, this tendon can avulse after an application of excessive force. For some patients, unrepaired distal FCR tendon avulsions may prevent competitive performance. I

Two non-dialyzed patients with severe uremic bone disease were treated successfully with dihydrotachysterol (DHT). In each case, dramatic clinical improvement was noted in several weeks and this was verified by biochemical, radiologic and histologic measurements. Although DHT has been utilized previously in combination with dialysis, its documented effectiveness in the absence of the latter therapy has not previously been reported.

Lunotriquetral (LT) synchondrosis is an uncommon variant of congenital LT coalition. Unlike complete LT fusions, this incomplete pseudoarthrosis-like coalition can become symptomatic. Surgical LT arthrodesis is a described treatment for this variant of LT coalition (Minnaar type I). We report 4 patients who underwent LT fusion with a second-generation headless compression screw and distal radius cancellous autograft. The challenge of treating fractures of the hand and wrist in the athlete lies in finding innovative ways of allowing the patient to participate in his sport while providing good fracture care. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the scoring of whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WBMRI) for efficacy assessment in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients receiving biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs).
