Interventions to improve the self-management support health professionals provide for people with progressive neurological conditions: protocol for a realist synthesis.

IntroductionSupporting self-management among people with long-term conditions is recognised as an important component of healthcare. Progressive neurological conditions (PNCs), for example, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis are associated with problems such as fatigue and cognitive impairment which may make self-management more challenging. Health professionals may need to develop specific skills in order to provide effective self-management support for these patients. The review aims to develop explanatory theories about how health professional-targeted interventions to improve self-

Prevalence based epidemiological cancer statistics: a brief assessment from different populations in India.

Modern civilization, urbanization, industrialization, changes in daily life, population growth and ageing all have contributed to epidemiological changes in many diseases, including cancer, in India and other countries. Tobacco has been identified as the most important cause of cancer followed by alcohol consumption, dietary practices, inadequate physical activity, infections due to viruses and sexual behavior. The total number of new cancer cases is increasing rapidly, due to growth in size of the population, and an increase in the proportion of elderly persons, as a result of improved life e

A Modified Delphi Consensus on Optimal Pharmacological Management of Insomnia: Insights from a Malaysian Perspective.

Insomnia represents a significant risk factor for impaired daytime functioning and a range of chronic health conditions and has emerged as a growing public health concern in Malaysia. The absence of standardised local guidelines complicates treatment decision-making. This consensus aimed to develop pharmacological treatment recommendations for insomnia in Malaysia using a modified Delphi approach. An eight-member expert panel comprising specialists in sleep medicine, psychiatry, neurology, and pharmacology reviewed high-level evidence on the neurobiology, diagnosis, and treatment of insomnia.

"What if the patient has a severe reaction, and it is my fault?" A qualitative study exploring factors for sustainable implementation of penicillin allergy delabelling.

BACKGROUND: Penicillin allergy delabelling (PAD), the process of evaluating penicillin allergy labels, is a key target in antibiotic stewardship, but uptake of the procedure outside clinical studies is limited. We aimed to explore factors that need to be addressed to sustainably implement a clinical pathway for PAD. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with focus groups consisting of a purposive sample of twenty-five nurses and physicians working in four different hospitals in Western Norway. Systematic text condensation was applied for analysis. RESU

Saying "no" to professional recommendations: client values, beliefs, and evidence-based practice.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this article is to explore the phenomenon of saying "no" to secondary prevention recommended by healthcare providers. DATA SOURCES: Extracted findings from two qualitative studies in which participants have said "no" to provider recommendations for secondary prevention, specifically screening mammograms or treatment for latent tuberculosis infection, are discussed. CONCLUSIONS: Although these two studies focus on different aspects of secondary prevention, both studies emphasize how client values and beliefs impact health decisions. Population health outcomes in Qatar 1990-2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023.

BACKGROUND: Patterns of health and disease in Qatar have shifted substantially over the past three decades, reflecting demographic expansion, economic transition, and significant improvements in health system capacity. A comprehensive, up-to-date evaluation of disease burden is essential to guide priority-setting, resource allocation, and national health planning. However, no prior study has systematically assessed long-term trends in morbidity, mortality, and risk factors in Qatar using the most recent epidemiological data consistent with the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study framework. The Critical Care Society of Southern Africa Consensus Guideline on ICU Triage and Rationing (ConICTri).

Background. In South Africa (SA), administrators and intensive care practitioners are faced with the challenge of resource scarcity as well as an increasing demand for intensive care unit (ICU) services. ICU services are expensive, and practitioners in low- to middle-income countries experience the consequences of limited resources daily. Critically limited resources necessitate that rationing and triage (prioritisation) decisions are routinely necessary in SA, particularly in the publicly funded health sector. Purpose. The purpose of this guideline is to utilise the relevant recommendations o

Design of the Middle East African Registry for Women's Cardiovascular Diseases: Protocol for a Multicenter Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), with a rising incidence particularly among women. Regional factors such as limited health care access, cultural barriers, and sex-specific risk factors exacerbate this burden. Despite this, women remain significantly underrepresented in cardiovascular research, and no large-scale, multicenter prospective trials have been conducted to provide national data. To address this gap, we established the Middle East African Registry Women Cardiovascular Disease (MEA-WCVD) to creat

The Implementation of Infection Prevention and Control Procedures in Primary Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Qualitative Study of Nursing Roles.

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, primary care practices felt poorly supported by existing infection prevention and control (IPAC) guidelines, which focused primarily on acute care facilities. This issue was further complicated by insufficient provision of personal protective equipment in primary care settings, which limited clinic capacity and the ability of primary care to provide in-person services. Nurses play an integral role in the implementation of IPAC procedures and the provision of ongoing primary care during a health crisis; however there is limited literature related to n

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Associated Societal Restrictions on People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH): A Qualitative Interview Study with PEH and Service Providers in the UK.

People experiencing homelessness (PEH) faced unique challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including changes to accommodation availability, societal restrictions impacting access to essentials like food, and services moving to online and remote access. This in-depth qualitative research aims to add to the existing, but limited research exploring how the pandemic affected PEH. 33 semi-structured qualitative interviews (22 with PEH during the pandemic and 11 with homelessness sector service providers) were undertaken in the United Kingdom between April 2021 and January 2022.
