Two DTPA derivatives, a mono-amide derivative containing an iodinated synthon, DTPA-IOPsp (L(1)) and the ligand DTPA(BOM)(3) (BOM=benzyloxymethyl) (L(2)), radiolabelled with (153)Sm(3+) and (111)In(3+), were studied as potential hepatospecific gamma scintigraphic agents. In vivo studies with Wistar rats show that the main excretory pathway for all the chelates studied is the hepatobiliary system. Radioimmunoscintigraphy (RIS) of colorectal carcinoma with a 111In-labelled anti-TAG-72 monoclonal antibody (CYT-103) has been performed in 24 patients with five primary lesions and 10 suspicious of recurrence (in one of these patients two RIS were made). In-111 labeled leukocyte scintigraphy was performed on a 90-year-old woman who had a fever and left lower extremity pain for 3 days. Leukocyte images demonstrated abnormal activity in the left knee and ankle. Aspiration of the left knee joint yielded cloudy yellow fluid with a leukocyte count of 30,000 per mm3 (75% polymorphonuclear leukocytes, 1% lymphocytes, and 24% monocytes). We performed radionuclide scanning after the intravenous injection of human IgG labeled with indium-111 in 128 patients with suspected focal sites of inflammation. Localization of 111In-labeled IgG correlated with clinical findings in 51 infected patients (21 with abdominal or pelvic infections, 11 with intravascular infections, 7 with pulmonary infections, and 12 with skeletal infections). The application of a thin oxide film is seen as a method of improving the ceramic-to-metal bond. Using sputter coating to form oxide films allows control of its thickness. The thickness of the oxide layer can also be controlled by sputter coating. A cisternogram characteristic of normal-pressure hydrocephalus was obtained from a patient on Diamox who was being evaluated for rapid mental deterioration. A repeat cisternogram after Diamox was discontinued was nearly normal. We hypothesize that the initial abnormality resulted from reduced cerebrospinal fluid production caused by carbonic anhydrase inhibition; this defect (reduced flow) led to a net reflux of tracer into the ventricles. The reflux is believed to be due to the reduction of bulk cerebrospinal fluid from the ventricles.

Potential-selective electrochemiluminescence (ECL) with tunable maximum-emission-potential ranging from 0.95 to 0.30 V is achieved using AgInS2/ZnS nanocrystals, which is promising in the design of multiplexed bioassay on commercialized ECL setups.
