The lived experience post-autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT): a phenomenological study.

Autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) has a high physical and emotional morbidity. This study using Husserlian phenomenological methodology and using Giorgi's (Phenomenology and Psychological Research, Dusquesne University Press, Pittsburgh, 1985) method of analysis was undertaken to attempt to gain some understanding of the patient's experience. Five adult patients who had previously undergone autologous transplantation for a haematological malignancy at least 6 months before participated in the study. Interviews with the participants were audio taped and then transcribed verb

DESIGN: Three cross-sectional studies were conducted on selected students on the basis of their scores on the Hypomanic Personality Scale (HPS) (study 1) and on elevated HPS and Dysfunctional Attitude Scale scores (studies 2 and 3). METHODS: In studies 1 and 2, participants completed questionnaires and kept a self-esteem diary

Experiences and perceptions of IBD-related psychological distress in persons living with IBD.

BACKGROUND: IBD-related psychological distress (IBD-PD) refers to the emotional impact of IBD and is associated with increased IBD activity. The inability to provide high-quality, person-centred care for IBD-PD that is proportional to clinical need is a significant healthcare gap in the Canadian healthcare system. The aim of this study was to generate stakeholder-derived data about patient experiences with IBD-PD in Nova Scotia, Canada. METHODS: Virtual semi-structured interviews took place between October 2021 and March 2022. The interview script was developed iteratively with researchers, I

Therefore, this study aimed to explore the psychological, socioeconomic, and physical experiences of pulmonary TB patients in Northern Ethiopia. A qualitative study design was utilized among pulmonary TB patients. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The sample size was determined based on information saturation. Data were collected using an

Exploring the lived experiences of maternal healthcare providers who contracted COVID-19: a descriptive phenomenological study.

Maternal healthcare providers are key stakeholders in safeguarding maternal and newborn health. This study employed a descriptive phenomenological design to explore the experiences of maternal healthcare providers who contracted the novel coronavirus disease, known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), in Ghana. A purposive sample of seven maternal healthcare providers from a quasi-government hospital was engaged in face-to-face interviews. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed using inductive thematic analysis. The results showed that participants experienced shock and g

Exploring the Experiences and Perceptions of Adults With Spinal Cord Injury or Disease Aged 50 Years or Older on Participation in Sports.

BACKGROUND: Sports are physical activities that provide physical, psychological, and social benefits for individuals with spinal cord injury/disease (SCI/D). However, most sports research has been completed on individuals with SCI/D who are aged >50 years, even though the majority of people with SCI/D are aged >50 years. Despite substantial evidence supporting sports for older adults not living with a disability, there is currently no research examining the impact of sports for adults with SCI/D aged ≥50 years. OBJECTIVES: To explore the perceptions and experiences of individuals with SCI/D a

Development of a Prognostic Awareness Impact Scale for Patients with Advanced Cancer.

Background: No reliable instruments exist to measure prognostic awareness and its psychological and behavioral impacts for patients with advanced cancer. Methods: We developed the Prognostic Awareness Impact Scale (PAIS) using a qualitative approach. During phase 1, we convened a working group with a transdisciplinary team of clinicians from oncology (n = 2), psychology (n = 2), psychiatry (n = 1), palliative care (n = 3), and survey development (n = 1) to identify key domains of PAIS. Using a consensus-driven process, the team generated an item bank for each domain. During phase 2, we conduct

'Stressed, uncomfortable, vulnerable, neglected': a qualitative study of the psychological and social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on UK frontline keyworkers.

OBJECTIVES: Non-healthcare keyworkers face distinct occupational vulnerabilities that have received little consideration within broader debates about 'essential' work and psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was therefore to explore the impact of the pandemic on the working lives and mental health and well-being of non-healthcare keyworkers in the UK. DESIGN: In-depth, qualitative interviews, analysed using a reflexive thematic analysis. SETTING: Telephone or video call interviews, conducted in the UK between September 2020 and January 2021. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of community-dwelling adults living with dysvascular LEA. METHODS: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with individuals with a dysvascular LEA recruited from three rehabilitation hospitals. Service providers' perceptions of barriers to the implementation of trauma-focused substance use services for women in Cape Town, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: A substantial number of South African women with substance use disorders also report psychological trauma related to experiences of physical and sexual abuse. Trauma-focused substance use programmes may support recovery from co-occurring substance use disorders and psychological trauma, yet integrated programmes are not widely available in South Africa. As part of the process of developing a trauma-focused substance use programme for South African women, we explored service providers' views of the feasibility of implementing trauma-focused substance use interventions within usual c
