Long-term/permanent jejunal feeding in children and adults is prone to significant complications, such as leakage, skin excoriation, and difficulty in reinsertion after dislodgement of the jejunostomy tube. Our innovative jejunostomy technique uses a pedicle segment of jejunum, which is retubularized using the principle of Monti. The jejunal segment is reinserted through a submucosal tunnel back into the jejunum. The other end is brought out onto the abdominal wall. The technique achieves a continent catheterizable jejunal stoma for enteral feeding.

In conscious miniature pigs with electrodes implanted in the wall of the antrum pylori, duodenum, jejunum, ileum and caecum, the influence of intravenous injection of cisapride, 0.5 and 1 mg/kg, on gastrointestinal myoelectrical activity, was examined. Cisapride, 1 mg/kg, induced a delayed and sustained increase in antral myoelectrical activity. The studied intestinal segments were rather insensitive to the stimulating effect of the benzamide, since only the jejunum and the caecum revealed an increase in myoelectrical activity with the higher dose studied.

Eimeriosis is a global poultry health problem. In the current study, we investigated the role of Salvadora persica leaf extracts (SE) against murine eimeriosis induced by Eimeria papillata. The infection induced an oocyst output of 6242 ± 731 oocysts/g feces. After treatment with 300 mg⁄kg SE, the oocysts expelled in feces decreased by approximately 3-fold. A 63-year-old patient with skin neurofibromas since birth was brought to emergency in a critical state due to massive bleeding per rectum. After stabilization and massive transfusion, the patient underwent Gastro-Intestinal (GI) endoscopy and abdominal computed tomography. A mass was identified in the jejunum. On laparotomy, multiple neurofibromas were seen in the jejunum. The segment with bleeding tumour was resected. Histopathology revealed benign spindle cell neoplasm, a gastrointestinal stromal tumour. The patient recovered and was discharged on day 15.
