OBJECTIVE: To examine the validity of head roll-tilt subjective visual vertical (HT-SVV) in diagnosing persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD).
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review.
SETTING: Tertiary referral center.
PATIENTS: Sixty-one patients with PPPD, 10 with unilateral vestibular hypofunction (UVH), and 11 with psychogenic dizziness (PD), showing chronic vestibular symptoms for >3 months.

Objective:To improve the level of clinical diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic bilateral vestibulopathy（IBV） by investigating the clinical characteristics of this disease. Medical treatment for Meniere's disease is effective in controlling vertigo for approximately 85% of patients. However, when disabling vertigo continues, surgical therapy is indicated. Several surgical approaches are performed to control the symptoms of peripheral vestibular disorders refractory to medical measures, each procedure having many technical variations. Surgery is usually reserved for patients with disabling vertigo. Acute otitis media is one of the most common diagnoses made in children in the United States. Intracranial and extracranial (intratemporal) complications have greatly decreased in the antibiotic era, but still remain a challenge when they arise. A rare case of congenital cholesteatoma as a cause of acute labyrinthitis is presented in the report. 14-years old boy was operated due to labyrinthitis caused by a huge cholesteatoma discovered behind intact tympanic membrane. On the first examination the symptoms indicated lack of right inner ear function, so unfortunately the referral was to late and the patient resulted in the dead ear. The diagnosis of congenital cholesteatoma as well as treatment of the entity and its subsequent complications is discussed in the report.

Vertigo and dizziness are common complaints encountered in clinical practice. The patient's history and a thorough otoneurological evaluation are essential for identifying the specific pathology behind the patient's complaints. Evidence of hearing loss in humans with systemic autoimmune disease has suggested the possibility of isolated forms of deafness originated by a autoimmune mechanism. Several authors reject McCabe's (1) proposed clinical description based mainly on response to treatment and have attempted to develop an animal model of autoimmune deafness. A comparative analysis was made of several experimental models of sensorineural hearing loss in guinea pigs developed in our laboratory for the study of this problem.

Middle and inner ear infections have been reported as a clinical entity in swine, other animal species and humans. In pigs, the anatomical-pathological and microbiological findings have been described. In this report, we describe radiographic findings in affected pigs. A total of 25 pigs with a head tilt and circling, as clinical signs of otitis media and interna, were examined. The majority were weaner-pigs with dyspnea or rhinitis. We demonstrated earlier, that undecapeptide of hydra vulgaris possesses vestibulo-protective activities in cats. We also investigated potential of vestibulo-protective properties of other peptide-protein substances from hydrobiontics. The work was done on 18 cats. We used the model of L. A. Radkevich and K. B. After a review on osseous labyrinthine modifications in cochlear otosclerosis, the authors report their experience, based on four patients, in CT evaluation of the disease. CT high resolution programs detect demineralization centres, which are distinctive of cochlear otosclerosis, at an early stage. CT must be considered a more informative investigation than multidirectional tomography.

The revival of endolymphatic sac surgery has led to many investigations in Meniere's disease, including lateral tomography of the periaqueductal pneumatization. We radiologically assessed a series of Meniere's patients and a control group, and found hypocellularity to be more common in Meniere's disease as the literature has stated. However, we found this finding bilaterally in patients with unilateral disease. Our assessment of this information in regard to the etiology and treatment of Meniere's disease is presented.

When combined vestibular and visual (optokinetic) stimuli were given to squirrel monkeys in a direction and phase mismatching sinusoidal mode (in yaw plane), five of six monkeys exhibited actual emesis during three repeated exposures on separate trial days. Two animals vomited on two trial days and three animals, on one day. The incidence took place in 38.9% of the total trial days. When the identical vestibular and visual stimuli were given individually, the effect was negligible, thus confirming each stimulus magnitude was not stressful enough to produce emesis when used separately.
