We undertook a light and scanning electron microscopic study of the eye in the Magellanic penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus). The anatomical peculiarities of the eyeball shape in Sphenisciformes have been previously described by others; here, we show that they are accompanied by several modifications in the organization of the anterior segment of the eye. Ischaemia has been considered a primary cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The existing concept is that ischaemic LUTS develops subsequent to structural narrowing of feeder arteries of the LUT due to atherosclerosis. However, the distribution of blood flow within each LUT organ that is regulated by intramural microvasculature should also be considered. Thus, the blood supply of the mucosal and detrusor smooth muscle (DSM) in the bladder and the blood flow of the mucosal, smooth muscle and striated muscle in the urethra need to be adjusted to meet their differing energy consumption.

Primary pyomyositis is a bacterial infection of striated muscle which is acquired by hematogenous route. A captive, adult, male northern saw-whet owl (Aegolius acadicus) was examined for blepharospasm of the left eye. The owl was diagnosed with bilateral anterior uveitis and a corneal ulceration in the left eye. The aim of this study was to find out the effect of CSF leakage on wound healing after flap surgery. Sixteen male Wistar rats were used. The superiorly based rectangular dorsal skin flap 3 x 3 cm was elevated at the interscapular region. Through this opening, paraspinal muscle dissection and three-level bilateral laminectomy were done. Finally, a dura defect with a diameter of 3-4 mm was created. PURPOSE: To improve understanding of the male pelvic anatomy pertinent to urological surgery we performed computer generated, 3-dimensional reconstruction of the male pelvis from the Visible Human data set.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 18 discrete anatomical structures, including the prostate, bladder, urethra, rectum and pelvic musculature, was segmented from the Visible Human cross-sectional data obtained from the National Library of Medicine. Using high speed computing and rendering software, 3-dimensional models of each structure were generated and assembled into composite figures.
