BACKGROUND: Skin grafting is a simple technique used during volar oblique amputation; however, it is not appropriate to use this technique if the bone or tendon is exposed. Moreover, in volar oblique amputation, if the severed section is large and elongated, skin grafting makes the lack of volume conspicuous, and reconstruction with a V-Y advancement flap occasionally results in a nail deformity that resembles a parrot's beak. We used a medial plantar venous flap for the correction of large volar oblique amputation.

The intramedullary nailing of humerus has emerged as one of the treatments of reference for proximal fractures. We have reviewed 38 patients aged 64.2 on average with a mean follow of 18 months. The functional scores used were the Constant and Murley's score as well as the DASH self-administered quality of life questionnaire. Humeral shaft fractures can be treated either conservatively or operatively. Plating of the humerus is the established operative method, but recently interest has also been focussed on intramedullary nailing. The yellow nail syndrome, combination of yellow discoloured nails, lymphedema and pleural effusions, is a rare clinical condition. A review of the literature, including 97 patients, is presented. Most patients developed yellow nail syndrome in early middle age, and the overall male:female ratio was 1.1.6. The etiology of the syndrome is obscure, while the pathogenesis seems to involve impaired lymphatic drainage. A patient, whose recurrent pleural effusions were effectively controlled by chemical pleurodesis, is also presented.

Onychomycosis in infants is a rare fungal infection. The condition is frequently linked to congenital or secondary immunodeficiency, as well as exposure to contaminated environments. In this report, we present a case of infant onychomycosis, likely infected during birth delivery from the mother with vaginal candidiasis. However, both the infant and the mother recovered spontaneously without any treatment over several months.

Subungual exostosis is a benign tumor that occurs under the nail plate of the distal phalanx and causes nail deformity and pain. There are many reports of recurrence and postoperative nail deformity, and the surgical approach needs to be reassessed. Two typical surgical approaches are from the nail fold and the nail bed.
