Currently, the unmet supportive care needs in family caregivers of patients with multiple myeloma remain unclear.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted. We used a self-developed questionnaire to assess the supportive care needs and perceived supply among 227 family caregivers of patients with multiple myeloma in southeastern China. Multiple regressio

OBJECTIVE: While epilepsy research has largely focused on medical management and clinical outcomes, less attention has been given to the unmet psychosocial and everyday needs of people with epilepsy (PWE), particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The Global Epilepsy Needs Study (GENS) aims to explore these needs, which are integral to the quality of life, by capturing both shared and context-specific experiences.
METHODS: The GENS employed a patient-centered approach and mixed-methods design, integrating a cross-sectional survey and semi-structured interviews in 15 countries. The sur

PURPOSE: The rising prevalence of multilingual populations and poststroke aphasia demonstrates the urgency of research on multilingual people with aphasia (MPwA). Understanding the experiences and needs of speech and language therapists (SLTs) working with MPwA is vital for guiding clinical practice and academic research in evaluation and intervention. This study explores the clinical realities, challenges, and educational needs of SLTs in Türkiye.
METHOD: Twelve SLTs with experience working with MPwA participated, reporting on individuals whose language profiles included Turkish, Kurdish, Ar

BACKGROUND: Youth who identify as transgender and gender diverse (TGD) are increasingly presenting to pediatric providers. Gender-affirming surgery is often delayed until after a patient reaches the age of majority; however, patients may desire surgery at a younger age.
OBJECTIVE: We explore the specific clinical needs of this vulnerable population, including surgical requests.
STUDY DESIGN: We present a cross-sectional study of patient intake interviews at time of presentation to our gender health program from 2017 to 2020. We summarize patient demographics, medical histories, and gender-af

BACKGROUND: Homelessness affects many people in contemporary society with consequences for individuals and the wider community. Homeless people experience poorer levels of general physical and mental health than the general population and there is a substantial international evidence base which documents multiple morbidity. Despite this, they often have problems in obtaining suitable health care.
AIM: To critically examine the international literature pertaining to the health care of homeless people and discuss the effectiveness of treatment interventions.

INTRODUCTION: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly recognized as a transformative force in healthcare. In the field of rare diseases, AI can enhance diagnostic accuracy and facilitate knowledge-sharing across borders. To effectively contribute to the development and use of AI-based medical support systems, clinicians must provide specialized AI competencies. This survey assesses the AI readiness, educational needs, and perceptions of members within the European Reference Network for Rare Inherited and Congenital Anomalies (ERNICA).
METHODS: A structured online survey consisting of 22

BACKGROUND: Emergency general surgery (EGS) has been rapidly adopted as one of the major components of acute care surgery. Although heterogenous, the most common disease states that comprise EGS often have published guidelines containing recommendations for their diagnosis and management. Not all diseases included within EGS however have published guidelines and existing guidelines may have important gaps in their recommendations. We present a thorough assessment of the existing guidelines for the most common EGS diseases and highlight gaps that will require additional literature review or new

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Since the last review of Williams syndrome in Current Opinion (2001) there have been many advances in knowledge about the cognitive, social and psychological impairments that characterize the disorder. The present review focuses on current research in these areas.
RECENT FINDINGS: Williams syndrome is associated with a wide range of cognitive, linguistic, social and other difficulties. When young, these deficits may appear relatively mild - for example, many children are highly sociable and talkative - but with age the impact of these difficulties becomes more evident. Thus

Fractures of the odontoid process seem to have an unclear and not well-understood behavior. This is well demonstrated in the literature as there is a disagreement in many fields, including the patterns of fractures, the percentage of pseudarthrosis or the appropriate treatment that is required. This situation makes the fracture itself a "challenging" one. Indeed, despite the existence of extensive literature, there are still many unresolved problems concerning these fractures. We recognize six main classification schemes of the odontoid process fractures which clearly demonstrate the presence

Cigarette smoking poses significant health burdens for people with mental illness. They die sooner than they should, and smoking is a major contributor to their high rates of morbid chronic physical health conditions and early mortality, compared to the general population. Family carers provide important support to people with mental illness. However, family carers' perspectives of smoking by their family members with mental illness are largely absent from the research literature and from practice, despite smoking rates remaining high and quit rates remaining low for this population. We know l
