Abstract Introduction: Cerebral metastases are the most common form of central nervous system (CNS) tumours in adults. However, malignant neoplasm may also involve structures external to the brain, such as tissue surrounding the base of the skull, and then metastasize to the brain either by direct invasion or by spreading by the cranial nerves. CASE1: A 74 year-old man, with a past history of chronic kidney disease due to renal artery thrombosis and hypertension, was admitted in the emergency room (ER) complaining of persisting pain in the superior half of the right hemiface and frontal region

There is a group of low-grade papillomatous squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the penis, collectively designated as "verruciform," that are difficult to classify. A proposal of classification grouped these tumors in warty (condylomatous), verrucous, and papillary carcinomas. Papillary SCC, not otherwise specified is the third distinctive type of penile low-grade verruciform neoplasms. We are presenting clinicopathologic features of 35 cases from 2 institutions. All specimens were penectomies or circumcisions. Mean age was 57 years. Sites of involvement were glans alone in 18 cases (51%), glans

Villous adenoma of the urinary bladder is a rare, benign glandular neoplasm with intestinal differentiation. This neoplasm is frequently associated with chronic urinary irritation and intestinal metaplasia of the urothelium. Fewer than 50 cases have been documented, and limited information is available regarding its clinicoradiologic spectrum. A 51-year-old man with severe anemia was found to have multiple broad-based exophytic lesions of the bladder on ultrasound. There was no hematuria, mucosuria, or other lower urinary tract symptoms. A minimally enhancing, plaque-like lesion measuring appr

BACKGROUND: Bowen's disease (BD), or squamous cell carcinoma in situ, is a common cutaneous neoplasm with an incompletely understood etiopathogenesis often linked to human papillomavirus (HPV). While the classic presentation is an erythematous macule, rare variants such as verrucous BD exist and can pose significant diagnostic challenges.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 91-year-old woman with a long-standing, 25 mm yellowish, verrucous lesion on her left leg. Clinically, the lesion was highly suggestive of verrucous carcinoma, leading to surgical excision. Histopathological examination

OBJECTIVE: Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is increasingly utilized for en bloc resection of superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms, providing accurate histopathological evaluation and potential curative treatment. Despite its widespread use in Eastern Asia, clinical data from Turkiye remain limited. In this study, we aimed to retrospectively analyze clinical parameters such as technical success, complication rates, histopathological findings and local recurrence rates observed during follow-up in ESD procedures performed at our center.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 147 patients

Appendiceal mucocele is an uncommon clinical and radiological finding characterized by cystic dilatation of the appendix due to intraluminal mucin accumulation and may be associated with underlying epithelial mucinous neoplasms. We present the case of a 45-year-old man with obesity who presented with a four-month history of intermittent right-lower-quadrant abdominal pain, occasional abdominal distension, and nonspecific changes in bowel habits. Physical examination revealed localized tenderness without signs of peritoneal irritation, and laboratory findings were within normal limits. Abdomina

Adenomyoma/adenomyomatosis (AM) of the gallbladder is generally considered an incidental and innocuous finding; however, neoplastic lesions, including intracholecystic neoplasms (ICNs), flat-type dysplasia, and carcinomas, may arise within AM. AM-associated ICNs, composed of mural cystically dilated glands containing florid papillary proliferations lined by mucinous and/or overtly dysplastic epithelium, are very rare and poorly characterized. This study aimed at investigating the clinico-radiologic, phenotypic/immunophenotypic, and molecular features of a mono-institutional case series of four

Pancreatic masses represent a heterogeneous spectrum of neoplasms, ranging from benign lesions such as serous cystadenomas to malignant tumors such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Timely and accurate differentiation among these entities is essential for devising effective therapeutic strategies. Recent advancements in diagnostic modalities, surgical techniques, and perioperative care have significantly influenced the management of pancreatic masses. This narrative review synthesizes current literature and clinical practices related to the surgical management of pancreatic masses. I

BACKGROUND: Supratentorial ependymoma, ZFTA fusion-positive, CNS WHO grade 3, is a rare pediatric brain tumor characterized by brisk mitotic activity and sometimes microvascular proliferation and/or necrosis. Typical treatment includes a combination of resection, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. These tumors often present at age 3 or 4 years and have a poor prognosis.
OBSERVATIONS: The authors present the case of a 4-year-old girl who presented asymptomatically with recurrence of a supratentorial ependymoma, ZFTA fusion-positive, CNS WHO grade 3, of the right parietal lobe with a homozygo

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) of the appendix are often incidentally discovered after appendectomy. Appropriate management is debated. The purpose was to characterize a cohort of 335 appendix NEN and evaluate the risk of recurrence.
METHODS: Retrospective collection of data from 335 patients referred to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Center at Rigshospitalet 2000-2019. Appendix goblet cell carcinoids and mixed neuroendocrine non-neuroendocrine neoplasms were excluded. Patients were followed until December 31st, 2019. No patients were lost to follow-up.
RESULTS: Sixty-three percent o

UNLABELLED: The molecular subtypes of urothelial carcinoma in each classification scheme have characteristic immunohistochemical features. At the same time, the results of conducted studies often demonstrate a discrepancy between the genomic profile of urothelial carcinoma and its immunophenotype, which complicates the immunohistochemical verification of the molecular subtypes of these tumors.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the morphological and immunophenotypic characteristics of the molecular subtypes of urothelial carcinoma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Surgical specimens from 196 patients diagnosed with

Undifferentiated carcinoma of the esophagus is a rare histologic variant of esophageal carcinoma. Using criteria based on studies of undifferentiated carcinomas arising at other sites, we have collected 16 cases of resected esophageal undifferentiated carcinomas. Patients ranged in age from 39 to 84 years (mean, 65.5 years) and were predominantly male (94%). The tumors were characterized by an expansile growth pattern of neoplastic cells organized in solid sheets and without significant glandular, squamous, or neuroendocrine differentiation. The neoplastic cells had a syncytial-like appearance

Undoubtedly, colonoscopy is the "gold standard" in the diagnosis of colorectal cancers. Sophisticated bowel preparation and risk of bowel perforation and bleeding, as well as the patient's discomfort during examination lead to low compliance in screening. Therefore, alternative non-invasive screening methods tend to come into the fore. In this study we compared the sensitivity and specificity of the double immunochemical FECA test for the haemoglobin + albumin content of the faeces with those of control colonoscopy in the detection of colorectal neoplasms. In a 3-year period 154 patients (69 m

Small intestinal adenocarcinomas are uncommon neoplasms that are rarely reported in nonhuman primates. These neoplasms are also rare in humans, although they are thought to share a similar pathogenesis with the more common colorectal carcinoma. Herein the authors report the clinical, histologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular characteristics of small intestinal adenocarcinoma in 10 common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus). Retrospective analysis of necropsy records revealed small intestinal carcinoma to be the most common neoplastic cause of morbidity and mortality in aged common marmosets. T

AIMS: Paget's disease of the perianal skin is a rare form of extramammary Paget's disease, and may be a primary intraepithelial adnexal neoplasm or secondary due to spread from an underlying colorectal lesion, nearly always colorectal adenocarcinoma. Secondary perianal Paget's disease associated with non-invasive colorectal adenomas is exceedingly uncommon, with only a few reported cases.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Herein, we present the clinical and pathological features of the largest series of secondary perianal Paget's disease arising in association with colorectal adenomas. There was gender pa

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus agalactiae is a known causal agent of neonatal meningitis, sepsis and puerperal infections. The incidence of invasive infections caused by Streptococcus agalactiae has increased in recent years in non gestating adults: in the elderly, patients receiving prolonged steroid treatment or those with chronic immunosuppressive diseases. The clinical and epidemiological characteristics and risk factors associated to invasive infections caused by S. agalactiae were analyzed.
METHOD: A retrospective study was undertaken in patients with invasive disease by S. agalactiae attend

RATIONALE: Desmoid tumors are rare myofibroblastic neoplasms characterized by local invasiveness and high rates of recurrence, and sometimes mimic local recurrence of previously resected malignancies. Previous studies have suggested that molecular profiling may be useful for the diagnosis of the tumors and risk stratification. However, the clinical utility of next-generation sequencing (NGS) for the management of desmoid tumors has not been established.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 42-year-old man visited our clinic for routine follow-up 1 year after left upper lobe lingular segmentectomy for lung ade

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: More needs to be understood concerning the natural progression and visual attributes of intracholecystic papillary neoplasm. Its longevity, especially the rate at which it transitions from benign to malignant growths, remains ambiguous. Consequently, it is imperative to elucidate the intrinsic progression of this precancerous lesion in the gallbladder.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 70-year-old North African woman arrived at the emergency department with abdominal pain, anorexia, and weight loss. The patient's physical examination showed favourable results for abdominal pai
