In 210 cases of oral cancer, 38 (17.6%) second primary tumours were found. Males had a higher chance of developing a second primary than females (21.4% versus 12%). The difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.11). When the index tumour was in the lower part of the oral cavity (floor of mouth, retromolar trigone, inferior alveolar process), a higher rate of second primaries was found than in cancer of the rest of the oral cavity (tongue, buccal mucosa and palate) (26.6% versus 11.5%). A 10-year-old girl with synchronous lesions of osteosarcoma in the left proximal tibia and in the right distal radius but with no lung metastasis was treated by an innovative procedure. After an above-knee amputation and a wide excision of the distal halves of the radius and ulna, the skeletal defect of the forearm was replaced by the distal tibia harvested from the amputated leg using the microsurgical technique of revascularization. The result was encouraging up to the point of her death due to other, widespread lesions.

A case of polyposis coli preceded by hepatocellular carcinoma and epidermoid cysts is described. Only one other documented case of hepatoma in association with polyposis coli has been reported in the literature. This patient is not only the youngest to develop an extracolonic malignancy, but has also been fortunate to survive a disease often considered fatal. The possibility of a polyposis-linked resistance to extracolonic malignancies is discussed.

A patient with malignant melanoma of the choroid and ciliary body had a primary cutaneous melanoma and the B-K mole syndrome phenotype. Because of this newly described association, all patients with the B-K mole syndrome (phenotype) should have a complete ocular examination to discover if there is any evidence of ocular melanoma. Likewise, all patients with ocular melanoma should have a thorough dermatologic examination to determine evidence of cutaneous melanoma and the B-K mole syndrome (phenotype).

Intra-abdominal desmoid tumors are known to be associated with familial polyposis coli, but have not been previously described in association with carcinoma of the sigmoid colon. This is a case report of a patient with intra-abdominal desmoid tumor associated with carcinoma of the sigmoid colon which manifested as a small-bowel obstruction. This appears to be the first case of its kind reported.

Two sarcomas that appeared as distinct solitary nodules in the walls of ovarian mucinous cystic tumors are described. One of the tumors was a fibrosarcoma associated with a mucinous cystadenoma; the other was an undifferentiated sarcoma in a mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. Both patients died within 1 1/2 years of their operations with distant metastasis; one of them had had metastatic sarcoma in the para-aortic lymph nodes at the time of exploration. These two cases are the only well-documented examples of this unusual combination of tumor types.

A patient with steroid hormones or androgen producing bronchogenic adenocarcinoma was presented. Clinically he had a mediastinal mass and bilateral multiple pulmonary nodules which showed a rapid growth despite cancer chemotherapy. At postmortem examination, radioimmunoassay of the tumor tissue revealed androgen and their precursors. The mitochondria of the tumor cells resembled those of cells in the zona reticularis of the adrenal cortex.

The occurrence of cutaneous angiolipomas and intra-abdominal retroperitoneal chemodectomas in two brothers is described. Both died from malignant dissemination of the chemodectomas. It is possible but speculative that two other brothers suffered from the same syndrome.
