The study was carried out during a 3-year period. Of 9501 cattle examined, 736 (7.7%) were infected with cysticerci of Taenia saginata. The endemic foci were identified and prevalence was significantly higher (P < 0.005) in animals from Noorabad Mammasani (10.7%), Kenareh (10.0%) and Shiraz area (8.5%) than elsewhere. Of the 1,200 people surveyed for dracontiasis in Ribi and Kanje villages in Awe Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, 982 (82%) were infected. The microbiological and clinical characteristics of 83 patients with necrotizing fasciitis (NF) treated over a period of 17 years are presented. Bacterial growth was noted in 81 of 83 (98%) of specimens from patients with NF. We have measured concentrations of tissue kallikrein-like amidase (TKLA) in blood-free rat gastrointestinal tissue. TKLA was present in the gut wall from the stomach to the rectum with concentration peaks in the duodenum and caecum.
