The Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO) is a useful aid to ambulation for patients with paraplegia. Its use has been described previously though not in conjunction with limb prostheses. This study was undertaken to determine the impact of spinal bracing on curve pattern and the rate of progression of neuromuscular scoliosis in children with cerebral palsy. Twenty-one patients were treated with a Wilmington custom-molded orthosis with 23 h a day brace wear for a mean bracing period of 67 months (range, 22-173). Twenty-two patients had a similar follow-up to spinal fusion but had no bracewear. A series of 65 children (130 hips) treated for congenital dislocation or subluxation of the hip with Pavlik harness been retrospectively reviewed. All patients were managed by the same physician and according to previously established principles. Mean follow-up after the termination of treatment was 7.5 months. Nineteen patients with 28 dislocated hips treated in a Pavlik harness for > 8 weeks with no evidence of hip reduction were identified. Lateral epicondylitis associated with cumulative trauma as seen in the clinical setting has usually involved long-term care with fair results. This paper describes the structured treatment program for lateral epicondylitis developed at the Michigan Hand Rehabilitation Center in Warren, Michigan. Results of the program, as reflected in five cases, have been a decrease in treatment time and a high incidence of return to work with no symptoms or reduced symptoms.

Ischemic necrosis is seen after both closed and open reduction. Its causes have been clarified during the last two decades. The position of the immobilized hip after reduction is an important factor; the method of reduction is another. There are other factors such as development of the epiphyseal nucleus and the degree of dislocation. A literature review of the etiologies and treatments of both hallux varus and brachymetatarsia is presented. An unusual case report of a young girl with bilateral congenital hallux varus and brachymetatarsia of the first metatarsal is then discussed. A detailed account of the surgical correction consisting of autogenous bone grafts from adjacent metatarsals proved to demonstrate excellent biomechanical and cosmetic results.

This study reviews use of the Pavlik harness from the parents' perspective. Questionnaires were answered by the parents of 32 children who had been treated with a Pavlik harness for congenital hip problems. Of 27 patients who were initially treated by the authors, only the parents of two children claimed that they followed the physicians's orders exactly. However, only one of the four treatment failures could be directly attributed to parental noncompliance. Specific problems with the harness such as bathing, inability to fit into car seats, and clothing led to the noncompliance in many cases.

Nineteen adolescent patients who presented with mechanical-type back pain and vertebral changes consisting of intravertebral disc herniation, disc space narrowing, and minimal wedge deformity are described. The Verebelyi-Ogston (V-O) procedure, consisting of subchrondral excision of the talus and cuboid, was used for the treatment of 13 resistant clubfeet secondary to myelomeningocele or arthrogryposis.
