Psychological and physical patient state as well as the influence of other social factor is of great influence voice rehabilitation. A team of experts in the field of voice and its function are involved in voice therapy. Our research was focused on the successfulness of voice recovery depending on the patient vocal disorder approach. We made a comparison of two methods: RVT and Accent method. We attempted to evaluate clinically relevant voice disorders in relation to certain vocal methods, we propose that a lot can be learned about voice trough therapeutic procedures, which can also be used to

Investigating the stratified efficacy and safety of pharmacological blood pressure-lowering: an overall protocol for individual patient-level data meta-analyses of over 300 000 randomised participants in the new phase of the Blood Pressure Lowering Treatment Trialists' Collaboration (BPLTTC).

INTRODUCTION: Previous research from the Blood Pressure Lowering Treatment Trialists' Collaboration (BPLTTC) and others has shown that pharmacological blood pressure (BP)- lowering substantially reduces the risk of major cardiovascular events, including ischaemic heart disease, heart failure and stroke. In this new phase, the aim is to conduct individual patient-level data (IPD) meta-analyses involving eligible BP-lowering randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to address uncertainties relating to efficacy and safety of BP-lowering treatment. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: RCTs investigating the effect o

Optimizing Navigation and Text Messaging Interventions to Promote Participation in a Food Is Medicine Program Among People Participating in Cardiac Rehabilitation: Human-Centered Design Study.

BACKGROUND: Food Is Medicine (FIM) programs integrate interventions such as medically tailored meals or produce prescriptions into clinical care. However, there is limited evidence on how to design these programs to be responsive to the lived experiences of participants to optimize initiation, engagement, and long-term retention. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to develop interventions to promote initiation, engagement, and retention in FIM programs that are responsive to the lived experiences of participants. METHODS: We used a human-centered design approach to engage current and

Understanding Engagement With a Couple-Based Intimacy Enhancement Intervention for Breast Cancer Survivors: An In-Depth Examination of Recruitment and On-Trial Engagement.

BACKGROUND: Barriers hinder cancer survivors' participation in and engagement with psychosocial interventions, particularly for trials evaluating dyadic interventions. AIMS: We examined patterns of enrollment (Study 1) and intervention engagement (Study 2) in a trial of a couple-based Intimacy Enhancement (IE) intervention for breast cancer survivors with sexual concerns and their partners. METHODS: Study 1 examined reasons for non-participation and support preferences of study-eligible survivors who declined participation and completed a standardized survey (n = 38) and compared decliners t

Patient buy-in to social prescribing through link workers as part of person-centred care: a realist evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Social prescribing link workers have become part of primary health care in recent years. They help patients to recognise non-medical factors affecting their health and identify sources of support, often in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. They form part of wider work to strengthen person-centred care, which actively seeks to engage individuals in decision-making about their health, taking into account their medical, social, psychological, financial and spiritual circumstances. OBJECTIVE: To understand how buy-in to social prescribing and the link worker role

Study protocol to develop a patient-reported outcome measuring disability associated with unilateral vocal fold paralysis: a mixed-methods approach with the CoPE collaborative.

INTRODUCTION: Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures are increasingly developed with multisite, representative patient populations so that they can serve as a primary endpoint in clinical trials and longitudinal studies. Creating multisite infrastructure during PRO measure development can facilitate future comparative effectiveness trials. We describe our protocol to simultaneously develop a PRO measure and create a collaborative of tertiary care centres to address the needs of patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP). We describe the stakeholder engagement, information technology

Direct Interactive Public Education by Breast Radiologists About Screening Mammography: Impact on Anxiety and Empowerment.

PURPOSE: Anxiety has been called a "harm" of screening mammography. The authors provided direct, interactive education to lay audiences and measured these sessions' impact on anxiety and any increased understanding of breast cancer screening. METHODS: Academic breast radiologist provided seven 1-hour sessions of structured lectures and question-and-answer periods. Lay language and radiologic images were used to discuss disease background, screening guidelines, and areas of debate. One hundred seventeen participants (mean age, 45 ± 15 years) completed voluntary, anonymous, institutional review

Does Collaborative Case Conceptualisation enhance engagement and outcome in the treatment of anorexia nervosa? Rational, design and methods.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a severe and potentially chronic disorder characterised by low body weight and persistent behaviours that interfere with weight gain. Individuals with AN are often difficult to engage in treatment and display high rates of drop out. The Collaborative Case Conceptualisation (CCC) assessment approach was developed to target proposed AN maintaining factors with the aim of improving treatment motivation and engagement and consequently treatment outcomes in individuals with AN. The proposed study aims to examine the efficacy of CCC in improving a range of outcom

Female tubal sterilization: the time has come to routinely consider removal.

Female sterilization, one of the most effective forms of pregnancy prevention, can be performed remote from pregnancy (interval sterilization) or around the time of delivery. Modern methods for sterilization include tubal interruption, salpingectomy, and transcervical sterilization. Tubal interruption has been the primary method for interval sterilization for decades, developing as a means of rapid intra-abdominal laparoscopic surgery at a time when instrumentation and operating systems were less sophisticated than today. New evidence that the most common ovarian cancer, serous adenocarcinoma,

A systematic review of outcomes of chronic disease self-management interventions.

PURPOSE: To carry out a systematic review of program outcomes used in the evaluation of group-based self-management interventions aimed at people with arthritis and other chronic conditions. METHODS: The systematic search was performed across databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO. Both between-group and within-group effect sizes (ES) were calculated. Results were interpreted as small (ES ~ 0.2), medium (ES ~ 0.5), or large (ES ~ 0.8) effects. RESULTS: The majority of 18 included trials investigated the effectiveness of arthritis-specific interventions. Across most outcomes, small e

Agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors: a global overview of the clinical problem.

The agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors is a common developmental anomaly and represents a clinical problem impairing dental esthetics and function from a very young age. Several dental specialties deal with the management of this clinical problem because a multidisciplinary approach can cover the complete dental needs of patients with dental agenesis. There is controversy, however, about whether missing lateral incisor spaces should be orthodontically opened or closed using permanent canines to replace the missing teeth. The article presents a review of the existing literature about the pr

Accountability in urinary catheter management.

Catheterisation is traditionally considered an area of nursing expertise. Patient involvement in decision-making is important. Although considered autonomous, community nurses appear to encourage a large degree of medical involvement in decision-making related to catheterisation.
