This study reviews the research evidence on the effectiveness of attending to clients' gender identity and gender as a system of power in psychotherapy. We begin with definitions and measures of gender identity and provide clinical examples. Next, we summarize our search for studies to conduct two meta-analyses on: (a) randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of psychotherapy conducted with transgender clients, and (b) RCTs of the outcomes of psychotherapies that attend explicitly to gender as a system of power compared with another bona-fide psychotherapy. OBJECTIVES: Little research has examined the discourses that shape therapists' sense-making around heterosex. This paper explores the discourses of sexuality and gender underpinning therapists' and non-therapists' responses to a sexual experimentation scenario in a heterosexual relationship. The article studies the way in which health professionals communicate the diagnosis of Down syndrome to parents. For that the personal stories of the mothers collected in the answers given by them to the open questions of a questionnaire on ″communication of the diagnosis″ are analyzed. In a trial examining whether cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) could be improved by integrating motivational interviewing (MI) to target resistance, MI-CBT outperformed CBT over 12-month follow-up (Westra, Constantino, & Antony, 2016). The purpose of this research was to evaluate orienting messages within the CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol in two formats: provided both at the outset and as needed throughout the interview compared to previous practice in which orienting messages were provided only as the opportunity arose. OBJECTIVE: To better understand the role of therapeutic alliance in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment, we examined patterns of and shifts in alliance. First, we identified individuals with repaired ruptures, unrepaired ruptures, and no ruptures in alliance. Then, we explored group differences in these alliance events for clients with common clinical correlates (i.e., co-occurring depression and childhood abuse history) and whether or not the presence of these events influenced treatment outcome.

Modern methods of diagnosis and treatment allow for better survival outcomes and, more importantly, for higher curability of cancer. Female cancer survivors often need effective advice concerning the choice of birth control methods. The majority of gynecologists are reluctant to propose anything other than barrier methods due to lack of information concerning safe use of more effective contraceptives. The aim of the paper was to summarize indications and contraindications to different methods of contraception available to cancer survivors in Poland.

OBJECTIVE: Clinical report suggests that therapists have strong and sometimes difficult-to-manage reactions to patients with eating disorders (EDs); however, systematic research is largely absent. The purpose of this study was to explore the emotional responses, or countertransference (CT) reactions, clinicians experience when working with patients with EDs, and to identify clinician, patient, and therapy variables associated with these responses.
METHOD: One hundred twenty clinicians reported on multiple variables related to an adolescent female patient they were treating for an ED.
