Childhood adversity and clinical and psychosocial outcomes in psychosis.

AIMS: Associations between childhood abuse and various psychotic illnesses in adulthood are commonly reported. We aim to examine association … ce responses. Childhood abuse, including sexual abuse, may contribute to subsequent adversity, poor psychosocial functioning and complex needs among people with psychosis. Longitudinal research to better understand these relationships is needed, as are studies which evaluate the effectiveness of preventative interventions in high-risk groups.

Profiles of Childhood Abuse and Biopsychosocial Outcomes in Adulthood: A Nationally Representative Sample Analysis.

The study explored the profiles of childhood abuse and biopsychosocial outcomes in adulthood, as well as early predictive factors. Data were drawn from Wave I (ages 11-21 years) and IV (ages 24-33 years) of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health dataset (N = 5112). Latent profile analysis (LPA) was employed to identify distinct patterns of childhood abuse and biopsychosocial outcomes (cardiometabolic risk, depressive symptoms, and socioeconomic functioning) in adulthood. Multinomial logistic regression was subsequently utilised to examine the predictive roles of early de

Neurological, psychological, psychosocial complications of long-COVID and their management.

Since it first appeared, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has had a significant and lasting negative impact on the health and economies of millions of individuals all over the globe. At the level of individual health too, many patients are not recovering fully and experiencing a long-term condition now commonly termed 'long-COVID'. Long-COVID is a collection of symptoms which must last more than 12 weeks following initial COVID infection, and which cannot be adequately explained by alternate diagnoses. The neurological and psychosocial impact of long-COVID is itself

Psychosocial impact of hidradenitis suppurativa: a practical guide for clinicians.

INTRODUCTION: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a debilitating skin disease with significant and often underappreciated effects on quality of life; available treatments fail to achieve consistent rates of remission. Targeting the psychosocial impact of HS has great potential to improve care for these patients. Although the literature on this topic is broad, there is a lack of specific tools that guide clinicians in this domain. METHODS: The authors surveyed the literature to find the aspects of psychosocial functioning that most significantly impact Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) for H…

[Autobiographical Memory in Alzheimer's Disease: Understanding to Better Support Patients].

Autobiographical memory is central to the construction and maintenance of identity and psychosocial functioning. In Alzheimer's disease (AD), autobiographical memory progressively deteriorates, disrupting personal narratives and self-perception. This article provides an integrative review of current knowledge on autobiographical memory and its impairment in AD. Neuroanatomical correlates are discussed, highlighting the key role of the hippocampus and its interactions with the frontal and parietal cortices and the amygdala. Preserved cognitive resources and current supportive strategies, includ…

Psychosocial Impacts of Huntington's Disease on Individuals, Relatives and Family Systems: A Thematic Synthesis.

Huntington's disease (HD) has prevalent, life-altering consequences for affected individuals, relatives, familial caregivers and systemic functioning. However, the shared psychosocial impacts of HD across family systems are inadequately understood, and a synthesis of evidence regarding these experiences is currently lacking. This thematic synthesis provides an up-to-date integration of qualitative research describing psychological, social and relational difficulties experienced by HD families. A systematic search across PsycINFO, CINAHL, MEDLINE and Scopus identified nine qualitative studies.

The psychosocial impact of pediatric vitiligo, psoriasis, eczema, and alopecia: A systematic review.

This review focuses on chronic pediatric skin conditions-vitiligo, psoriasis, alopecia, and eczema-and their profound psychosocial impact on children and adolescents. Currently, a comprehensive comparative analysis across these conditions is absent, and comparisons between diverse psychosocial measures are lacking. This review aims to bridge that gap through a systematic review analyzing studies from PubMed and Embase up to April 2023 according to PRISMA. The findings emphasize that psoriasis and vitiligo significantly diminish the quality of life (QoL) of young individuals, heightening their
