Effect of technology-based acceptance and commitment therapy for smoking cessation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use remains one of the world's greatest public health challenges, contributing substantially to morbidity and mortality. Effective and accessible smoking cessation interventions are essential to reducing tobacco-related health risks. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has demonstrated efficacy in enhancing quit rates. However, the effectiveness of technology-based ACT, a more accessible modality, has not yet been comprehensively studied and synthesized. OBJECTIVE: To assess the overall and subgroup effectiveness of technology-based ACT interventions for smoking cessat

Recovery housing for substance use disorder: a systematic review.

Recovery housing, an abstinence-based living environment, is the most widely available form of substance use disorder (SUD) recovery support infrastructure. This systematic review characterized the randomized control trials (RCT) and quasi-experimental designs (QED) research on recovery housing. We conducted a search across PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO and CENTRAL published prior to February 2024. For inclusion, studies had to compare recovery housing alone to a non-recovery housing condition. Our search identified 5 eligible studies including 3 RCTs and 2 QEDs, across 11 reports. Particip

Non-surgical treatment of cyclosporin A-induced gingival overgrowth: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cyclosporin A-induced (CsA-induced) gingival overgrowth (GO) is a common side effect affecting many patients. While surgical intervention is often considered the primary treatment, the effectiveness of nonsurgical periodontal therapy for CsA-induced GO remains unclear. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy of nonsurgical periodontal treatment in CsA-induced GO. METHODS: Articles were retrieved from 7 databases (Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Academic Database, Clinical Trials Database, and Grey Literature Database) unti

Bridging the gap between evidence and clinical practice for migraine headaches: a systematic review (2019-2024).

BACKGROUND: Migraine headache (MH) is a prevalent and complex neurological disorder affecting over one billion individuals worldwide, making it one of the leading causes of years lived with disability. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) support evidence-based neurology, but whether recent trials provide practice-ready information remains unclear. This study aims to identify common shortcomings in design and reporting; highlight trial features that enhance value to practicing clinicians; and offer recommendations that improve the alignment between MH research and patient-centered care. METHOD

Incomplete reporting of adverse events in duloxetine trials: a meta-research survey of randomized controlled trials vs placebo.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Relying on published data alone might be insufficient for meta-analyses to be reliable and trustworthy since selective outcome reporting is common, especially for adverse events (AEs). We investigated the existence of selective reporting and its potential for bias in a case study exploring AEs of duloxetine in adults. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: We systematically searched all previous meta-analyses/pooled analyses on duloxetine published on PubMed for seven indications approved by the American and European health authorities. We included all randomized controlled tria

Comparative efficacy of sugammadex and neostigmine in postoperative nausea and vomiting management: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are frequent complications that can occur after surgical procedures. Sugammadex, known for its effectiveness as a muscle relaxant antagonist, offers several advantages over neostigmine, however, there is still insufficient evidence to demonstrate its superiority in reducing PONV. This meta-analysis sought to assess the efficacy of sugammadex versus neostigmine in the management of PONV. Two independent investigators conducted a comprehensive review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) across PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. The meta-analysis

Why most responder analyses are misleading.

OBJECTIVE: So-called responder analyses are commonly used in randomized controlled trials (RCT) for osteoarthritis and are typically based on observed change from baseline in self-reported pain. However, it is well known in the methodological literature that such responder analyses are misleading. We aimed to illustrate the size of the problem using simulation. DESIGN: We generated individual pain trajectories based on real-life assumptions: normal distribution, mean pain 45 on visual analogue scale (VAS, range 0-100), within person standard deviation 12, between person standard deviation 25.

Effectiveness and safety of light therapy for treating primary dysmenorrhea: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

OBJECTIVE: Primary dysmenorrhea, defined as painful menstrual cramps without identifiable pelvic pathology, is a prevalent gynecological condition that significantly impacts quality of life. Emerging evidence suggests that light-based therapies, including low-level light therapy (LLLT) and high-intensity light therapy (HILT), may offer a non-pharmacological approach to managing menstrual pain. This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of light therapy in individuals with primary dysmenorrhea. METHODS: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched twelve e
