Weight assessment and the provision of weight management advice in primary care: a cross-sectional survey of self-reported practice among general practitioners and practice nurses in the United Kingdom.

BACKGROUND: Although primary care settings provide a large-scale and high-reach opportunity for weight management and obesity prevention, the proportion of adults in the United Kingdom (UK) who report receiving weight management advice is limited. This study examines the self-reported frequency of assessing weight and providing weight management advice by General Practitioners (GPs) and Practice Nurses (PNs) working in primary care in the UK, and differences by practitioner characteristics. METHODS: Cross-sectional survey with GPs and PNs in the UK (n = 2020), conducted January-March 2017. A

Assessing possible DSM-5 ASD subtypes in a sample of victims meeting caseness for DSM-5 ASD based on self-report following multiple forms of traumatic exposure.

Acute stress disorder (ASD) was introduced into the DSM-IV to recognize early traumatic responses and as a precursor of PTSD. Although the diagnostic criteria for ASD were altered and structured more similarly to the PTSD definition in DSM-5, only the PTSD diagnosis includes a dissociative subtype. Emerging research has indicated that there also appears to be a highly symptomatic subtype for ASD. However, the specific nature of the subtype is currently unclear. The present study investigates the possible presence of ASD subtypes in a mixed sample of victims meeting caseness for DSM-5 ASD based

Dim light melatonin onset profile endotypes in a real-world clinical population with home-based, self-collected salivary assessments: Identification, distribution, and potential clinical relevance.

Academic studies suggest that self-assessment of circadian phase in home-based settings is viable. We implemented a pragmatic, home-based salivary dim light melatonin onset (DLMO) assessment protocol as a fee-based, clinical service model. The DLMO assessment protocol involved hourly self-collection of saliva samples scheduled relative to habitual bedtime, with a collection window beginning up to 7 h before bedtime and, when indicated, extending as late as 5 h post-bedtime. Patients received written and video instructions, and optional telehealth guidance. We performed two consecutive studies …

An Assessment of the Subjective Psychological and Social Effects of Malocclusion-Related Dental Aesthetics and Its Influence on Body Self-Image and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life in Young Adults.

INTRODUCTION: Malocclusion has a psychological impact related to the patient's age. It also influences the quality of life. This research aims to test the null hypothesis that there is no association between the self-perceived psychosocial impacts of dental aesthetics with the severity of malocclusion, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and self-image of the body in young adults seeking orthodontic treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A convenience sample of young adults between 19 and 30 years old was selected for the study. The severity of malocclusion and orthodontic treatment need

Protocol, rationale and design of SELPHI: a randomised controlled trial assessing whether offering free HIV self-testing kits via the internet increases the rate of HIV diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Among men who have sex with men (MSM) in the UK, an estimated 28% have never tested for HIV and only 27% of those at higher risk test at least every 6 months. HIV self-testing (HIVST), where the person takes their own blood/saliva sample and processes it themselves, offers the opportunity to remove many structural and social barriers to testing. Although several randomised controlled trials are assessing the impact of providing HIVST on rates of HIV testing, none are addressing whether this results in increased rates of HIV diagnoses that link to clinical care. Linking to care is t
