Delivery formats of cognitive behavior therapy in adults with eating disorders: a network meta-analysis.

Although CBT has been found to be effective in the treatment of eating disorders, it is not clear if there are differences between treatment formats. We conducted a network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized trials of broadly defined CBT comparing individual, group, guided self-help (GSH) and unguided self-help (USH) with each other or with a control condition. The NMA used a frequentist graph-theoretical approach and included 36 trials (53 comparisons; 3,136 participants). Only one trial was aimed at anorexia nervosa. All formats resulted in large, significant effects when compared to waitlist

Healing of the Canoe: Preliminary Suicide Prevention Outcomes Among Participating and Non-Participating Youth.

Healing of the Canoe (HOC) is a community-derived, culturally grounded, and flexible curriculum for Native youth that builds a connection to culture and community and teaches skills that increase participants' feelings of hope, optimism, and self-efficacy. This exploratory study is the first to examine self-reported survey outcomes after the addition of suicide prevention and intervention modules into the curriculum and includes a comparison group of similar youth. Repeated measures analysis of variance (rANOVA) models examined changes in scores from the Pre-Survey to the Post-Survey for an in

Risk factors in Dupuytren's diathesis: is recurrence after surgery predictable?

In order to investigate the prognostic value of possible risk factors for Dupuytren's diathesis, clinical parameters on disease presentation in an operated group of patients were compared with self-reported recurrence after a minimum 2 years follow-up. In order of significance, the following factors were found to be significantly correlated with disease recurrence : age of onset under 50 years (p = 0.01), bilateral disease (p = 0.01), Ledderhose disease (p = 0.01), first ray involvement (p = 0.02), multiple ray involvement (more than 2 digits, p = 0.02), ectopic fibromatosis (p = 0.02), family

Effectiveness of an internet-based self-help intervention for improving mental health in individuals with obesity: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with chronic somatic diseases such as obesity often develop comorbid depressive symptoms. E-mental health interventions are an innovative and effective treatment option within a stepped care approach. Studies have shown that acceptance and adherence are higher when they are tailored to the specific needs of the target group. This study protocol describes a randomised controlled trial (RCT) of an internet-based self-help intervention, Fit4Mood, to improve mental health in the high-risk group of adults with obesity. The objective of the @ktivPLUS research project is to eva

Enhancing educator preparedness for type 1 diabetes: a theory-based intervention targeting knowledge and Self-efficacy in low-resource schools.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an increasing concern among school-aged children, with more than 1.2 million affected globally. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), teachers often act as first responders to diabetes-related emergencies despite limited preparation. Structured education programs informed by behavioral theory may help strengthen both knowledge and applied competence among school staff. AIM: This study examined the short-term effects of a Bandura-based diabetes education intervention on teachers' knowledge, self-efficacy, and scenario-based competence in a

Comparison of team-based learning vs. lecture-based teaching with small group discussion in a master's degree in nursing education course.

BACKGROUND: The high student-to-faculty ratio is an obstacle in the reform of teaching methods in master's programmes of nursing education in China. Though Kim's study showed that team-based learning (TBL) can be implemented in high student-to-faculty ratio classes, it is still a challenge for students accustomed to the traditional didactic lecture (TDL) teaching method, and the lack of an inclusive design model has restricted the effective application of TBL. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of TBL on postgraduate nursing students with lecture-based teaching with small group discussion (LBTW

Addiction, agency, and the politics of self-control: doing harm reduction in a heroin users' group.

Our 2007-2009 ethnography describes and analyses the practice of harm reduction in a heroin users' group in the midwestern United States. While dominant addiction interventions conceptualize the addict as powerless - either through moral or physical weakness - this group contested such "commonsense," treating illicit drug use as one of many ways that modern individuals attempt to "fill the void." Insisting on the destigmatization of addiction and the normalization of illicit drug use, the group helped its members work on incremental steps toward self-management. Although "Connection Points" ha

Self-Efficacy and Readiness to Change Among Women with Recent Gestational Diabetes Engaging in a Web-Based Lifestyle Intervention: The Balance After Baby Intervention Trial.

Few evidence-based programs exist to help women with a history of gestational diabetes reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In secondary analyses from a randomized clinical trial of a web-based lifestyle intervention program for postpartum women with recent gestational diabetes, we studied changes in self-efficacy for diet and physical activity and readiness to change health behaviors. Women were randomized at ∼6 weeks postpartum and completed questionnaires at 6 weeks and 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. Our study included 181 women (mean age 32.4 ± 5.2 years; 48% White, 19% Asian, 14% B

Investigating the role of the intensity and duration of self-injury thoughts in self-injury with ecological momentary assessment.

This study utilized ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to sharpen understanding of whether non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) thought intensity and duration impacts NSSI behavior and potential alternative behaviors to NSSI. Self-injuring adolescents and young adults (N = 47) were randomly prompted using EMA to complete measures of NSSI thoughts (i.e., occurrence, intensity, duration) and behavior (i.e., engagement, frequency, duration, and methods) for two weeks. The most common NSSI thought duration was 1-30 min. Individuals with higher NSSI thought intensity were more likely to self-injure.

Emotions in play: young people's and clinicians' experience of 'Thinking about Emotions' group.

PURPOSE: Emotional difficulties in young people (YP) with anorexia nervosa (AN) are well recognised. Improved strategies are needed to support inpatients to tolerate group therapy and to help them to better identify and manage their emotions. Cognitive Remediation and Emotion Skills Training (CREST) for AN adults, aimed at improving emotional processing skills, has been found beneficial in adult AN groups. A case series of CREST was conducted in an inpatient ward for YP (CREST-YP) to evaluate its suitability for a younger population. METHODS: A mixed-methods assessment was used. Thirty-two YP

Effects of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on shame, self-compassion and psychological distress in anxious and depressed patients: A pilot study.

OBJECTIVES: The tendency to experience shame or guilt is associated differentially with anxiety and depression, with shame being associated with greater psychopathology. Correlational studies have shown self-compassion to be related to lower shame and rumination, and mindfulness-based interventions increase self-compassion. Therefore, mindfulness-based interventions may decrease shame. This pilot study aimed to assess the association of shame, rumination, self-compassion, and psychological distress and the effects of a mindfulness-based intervention on these measures in a clinical sample. Internet-Based Self-Help Intervention for ICD-11 Adjustment Disorder: Preliminary Findings.

Adjustment disorder is one of the most diagnosed mental disorders. However, there is a lack of studies of specialized internet-based psychosocial interventions for adjustment disorder. We aimed to analyze the outcomes of an internet-based unguided self-help psychosocial intervention BADI for adjustment disorder in a two armed randomized controlled trial with a waiting list control group. In total 284 adult participants were randomized in this study. We measured adjustment disorder as a primary outcome, and psychological well-being as a secondary outcome at pre-intervention (T1) and one month a

Distinct profiles of childhood maltreatment and recent stress in relation to non-suicidal self-injury: the roles of self-criticism and self-compassion.

BACKGROUND: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) has increasingly become a common health concern among young adults. To effectively address and prevent NSSI, it is crucial to understand the impact of both early childhood maltreatment and recent stress, which are well-established risk factors. Previous studies have primarily focused on these factors individually or overall, while neglecting the potential heterogeneity of childhood maltreatment and recent stress when these factors co-occur. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the potential latent types of childhood maltreatment and recent stres

Parental depression in offspring's internalization of stigma: A family-individual model of self-stigma.

Children of parents with depression are prone to mental health problems. Self-stigma severely impacts individuals' help-seeking behaviors and mental well-being, but the effects of parental depression on offspring's self-stigma remain unknown. This study proposed and validated a family-individual model to explain how familial and individual factors impact depression self-stigma. A survey of 1,012 Chinese individuals with depression (aged 13-30 years) was conducted from May to October 2023 to collect data. T tests and chi-square tests were used to identify differences between groups with and wit

Is perfectionism always unhealthy? Examining the moderating effects of psychological flexibility and self-compassion.

OBJECTIVE: Perfectionism is generally associated with worse mental health outcomes, though evidence suggests elements of it may be helpful. In light of these findings, we examined whether psychological skills like psychological flexibility and self-compassion moderated the relationship between perfectionism and wellbeing (i.e., quality of life, symptom impairment, and psychological distress). METHODS: Undergraduate students (N = 677) completed self-report measures. RESULTS: A latent profile analysis identified three perfectionism groups (low, average, and high) based on four perfectionism su

Facticious disorders in dermatology.

Facticious Disorders are self inflicted skin lesions and includes the creation of physical or psychiatric symptoms in oneself or other reference persons. In dermatology frequently, there are mechanical injuries by pressures, friction, occlusion, biting, cutting, stabbing, thermal burns or self-inflicted infections with wound-healing impairment, abscesses, mutilations or damages by acids and other toxic to the skin. The current classification differentiates between four groups: 1. Dermatitis artefacta syndrome in the narrower sense as unconscious/dissociated self-injury, 2. Dermatitis paraartef
