To evaluate prospectively vaginal bleeding in young children with emphasis on the cause, management and outcome, we analyzed the data of all children aged under 10 years old who presented with vaginal bleeding at the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital between 1981 and 2000. There were 55 girls presenting with vaginal bleeding with variable degrees of severity. In 41 of the 55 girls (74.5%), the bleeding resulted from a local lesion of the genital tract. BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess the role of laparoscopy in the management of vaginal malformations in children, a subject not often discussed in the literature.
METHODS: Between 1980 and 2002, we treated 22 children for vaginal malformations. OBJECTIVES: To determine the feasibility and acceptability of minilaparotomy-assisted vaginal hysterectomy.
METHODS: A prospective pilot study in a general hospital was conducted. Twenty patients who were on the waiting list for abdominal hysterectomy were included in the study. All these patients had one or more relative contraindications to vaginal hysterectomy. The hysterectomy procedure was started vaginally in all cases. A minilaparotomy incision was performed to complete the procedure if vaginal hysterectomy was not feasible. Results were analyzed on the intention to treat basis.

Although Zygomycetes cause life-threatening, opportunistic infections in immunocompromised hosts, the first case of vaginitis caused by Mucor species in a healthy woman is reported. Mucor vaginitis, which caused mild symptoms only, was refractory to conventional azole therapy and resistant to flucytosine. Cure was achieved with topical amphotericin B.

BACKGROUND: Adenosarcoma in a patient with extraovarian endometriosis is a rare event and can be easily overlooked.
CASE: A woman with a history of endometriosis underwent multiple resections of a vaginal mass and medical treatment for presumed recurrent endometriosis. Eventually, a vaginal adenosarcoma was diagnosed.
CONCLUSION: The possibility of adenosarcoma should be considered if an enlarging mass occurs at the site of extraovarian endometriosis.

We describe a new surgical technique (the vaginal plastron) for the treatment of cystocele by the vaginal route. The technique is based on bladder support by a vaginal strip, isolated from the anterior colpocele, left attached to the bladder, associated with a suspension of this strip by its fixation to the tendinous arch of the pelvic fascia by six lateral sutures (3 on each side of the plastron). Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy provokes physical and emotional stress to patients and physicians. Physicians must be prepared to assess the medical implications of acute blood loss to these patients and their unborn children quickly. When mother and fetus are stable, the recognition and treatment of the underlying cause is essential to decreasing additional maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality associated with the bleeding episode.

We report the case of a woman who introduced 20 mL of diquat concentrate intravaginally. Abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, burning chest pains, and somnolence appeared within the first 24 hours. In order to study the aetiology of vesico-vaginal fistula in Jordan, and assess the outcome of surgical treatment, 132 cases of acquired vesico-vaginal fistulae treated at Al-Bashir Hospital, and Jordan University Hospital, Amman, Jordan, during the period between 1972 and 1996 were reviewed. Forty-five cases (30%) had one or more previous failed repair outside these hospitals. The transvaginal sacrospinous fixation, called Richter operation was initially aimed to cure vaginal vault prolapse after hysterectomy. The results are as good as those of the abdominal promontory fixation with the well known advantages of the vaginal route. Indications way be extended to V3 U3 R3 prolapse and cure of elytrocele with good results in our practice. In few cases remnant cystocele may be a trouble some problem.

A 34-year-old woman had a serum hCG level of 4596 mIU/mL on cycle day 48 and an empty uterus with an IUD in situ. Transvaginal sonography showed a 20 mm ring-like thick-walled hyperechogenic structure within the right ovary. OBJECTIVE: This report describes a technique for total colpocleisis performed on women with posthysterectomy vaginal eversion and presents the outcome of this surgery.
STUDY DESIGN: Thirty-three women, aged 51 to 94 years (78.1 +/- 8.8, average +/- SD) with vaginal eversion were treated with total colpocleisis. The significance of Streptococcus agalactiae as an aetiological agent in vaginitis was evaluated. A total of 6226 samples from women who presented with vaginal symptoms was examined. The presence of >10 leucocytes/high-power field (h.p.f.) was taken to be the criterion of active infection. S. agalactiae was isolated from 10.1% of these samples.
