A variety of 3-(3-bromo phenyl)-5-phenyl-1-(thiazolo [4,5-b] quinoxaline-2-yl)-2-pyrazoline were obtained by the refluxing of 1-N-thiocarbamoyl 3,5-diphenyl-2-pyrazoline with 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by UV, IR, (1)H NMR, and (13)C NMR spectroscopy. The purity of the compounds was confirmed by their elemental analysis. The antiamoebic activity of these compounds was evaluated by microdilution method against HMI:IMSS strain of Entamoeba histolytica and the IC(50) values were compared with the standard drug metronidazole. The neuropathological findings in a man and his dog both of whom died after acute exposure to methyl bromide are presented. The dog had cerebral oedema, most marked in the depths of cortical sulci. The man survived 30 days after the initial illness and his brain contained well-defined symmetrical lesions in the mammillary bodies and inferior colliculi. He also had a peripheral neuropathy and lymphocytic thyroiditis. The pathology in the central nervous system has features resembling Wernicke's encephalopathology; the mechanism by which methyl bromide may produce such lesions is discussed.

A high striatum: cerebellum ratio of 77Br-p-bromospiperone (77Br-BrSp) was observed in rat brain following tail vein injection of the drug. Striatal 77Br-BrSp was stereospecifically displaced by the isomers of flupenthixol. After chronic haloperidol administration striatal dopamine receptor supersensitivity was demonstrated both by increased 3H-spiperone binding to striatal membranes in vitro and by increased striatal 77Br-BrSp content. PURPOSE: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) involves lung hypoplasia and pulmonary hypertension (PH). Post-natal Perflubron ventilation induces lung growth. This phenomenon is called Perflubon-induced lung growth (PILG). However, it does not appear to ameliorate PH in CDH. In vivo and in vitro research approaches were carried out to survey the potential health risk of environmental exposure by hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs). Transthyretin-binding assay was designed to test for the potency of HBCDs to compete with thyroxine (T4) for binding to the transport protein. The results showed that the binding of 25I-T4 and T4 was only slightly inhabited even at the highest competitive concentration of HBCDs (75.08%, 80 micromol x L(-1)), indicating the marginally interfere potency of HBCDs in the transportation of T4.
