Eighty-eight patients with opisthorchiasis were treated with biltricide in an anthropurgic and natural focus of opisthorchiasis in the Altai Territory. A one-day course of drug therapy, in a total dose of 60 mg/kg, was administered. Forty-two patients developed side effects in the course of therapy. Complete elimination of the helminths was achieved in 83 (94.3 +/- 2.3%; p less than 0.05) patients in 6 months after therapy.

The authors described the clonorchiasis focus in the Vietnam province at the seaside delta of the Red River where the aforementioned invasion was accompanied with multiple invasions with intestinal nematodes. A ten months old male infant was found to have a de-novo-deletion of the long arm of chromosome 11 (q23----qter). With regard to previous reports the combination of the following signs seems to be pathognomonic for partial monosomy of the long arm of chromosome 11: trigonocephaly, abnormal palpebral fissure, epicanthus, broad and depressed nasal bridge, carp shaped mouth, low-set malformed ears and statomotoric retardation. Two cases, a boy and a girl, with the 11q-(Jacobsen) syndrome are reported. Partial trisomy 6q (6q23 leads to qter), resulting from a non-balanced translocation 6/18, was detected in a child and his paternal uncle. Features of note in the uncle included micrognathia, scoliosis and mild mental retardation. BACKGROUND: Oral processing behavior influences starch bioavailability, yet the impact of chewing conditions on starch digestibility remains unclear. This study investigated how varied chewing behaviors affect starch digestibility in a mashed potato (MP) sample. Three chewing conditions were compared until individual swallowing readiness: slow-rate (SR) chewing, squeezing (tongue-palate compression without teeth), and free chewing.
RESULTS: Instrumental texture analysis showed pure MP was too soft for chewing; κ-carrageenan (κ-Car) addition increased hardness, enabling mastication in MP-Car.

The purpose of this study was to quantify three groups of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners (i.e., dioxin-like toxic equivalents [TEQ], non-dioxin-like PCBs, total PCBs) in fish in several species, tissues, and locations in the Columbia River near the Hanford Site.
