PURPOSE: The lack of a suitable alternative to autogenous vein is often the limiting factor for complex lower extremity vascular reconstruction, especially when previously placed grafts have failed. Cryopreserved saphenous vein allografts have been used as an alternative conduit. This report reviews our early experience with this conduit in a series of complex redo revascularization procedures for limb salvage when no suitable autogenous vein was available.

Transfer of cryopreserved embryos in PCOS patients resistant to CC stimulation is an intriguing problem. Ovarian stimulation with hMG/hCG to create a secretory endometrium, will entail an unnecessary risk of OHSS. In this case study, we report the accomplishment of a successful pregnancy after transfer of cryopreserved embryos after secretory transformation of the endometrium by E2/P substitution in the absence of corpus luteum formation. However, the success rate of this treatment modality in terms of pregnancy per embryo transfer has still to be evaluated in an ongoing study.

After thawing cells, previously cryopreserved in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), a decrease in their viability and increase in unscheduled DNA synthesis was observed. In 7 days, these parameters restored to the control level. Cryopreservation without DMSO resulted in the decrease in both cell viability and replicative and unscheduled DNA synthesis. We have explored the method of Rapoport et al. (J Clin Endocrinol Metab 1984;58:332-8) for the bioassay of thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) in cultured human thyroid cells, to optimize the assay and to evaluate its utility in clinical diagnosis and management of patients with autoimmune thyroid disease. Here we describe the procedure ultimately adopted, its major properties, and the results it has yielded in various clinical states. Two methods of measuring total T cell percentages have been used to assess the effect of freezing and storage on the ability of lymphocytes to form rosettes in blood transfusion donors, laboratory staff, patients awaiting surgery for non-malignant conditions and 48 preoperative lung cancer patients.
