BACKGROUND: Sporotrichosis in childhood is rare in most countries. Isolated cases and small outbreaks related to recreational activities or without identification of the transmission mechanism have been reported.
METHODS: Series of case reports. The isolation of Sporothrix schenckii from exudates or fragments of lesions obtained from the patients was used as the criterion of inclusion in the study.

Adult nasolacrimal sac mucocele is an uncommon mass arising in the medial canthal region of the orbit. Twenty-one cases with lacrimal sac mucocele were reviewed retrospectively. PURPOSE: To describe a case of severe dry eye syndrome in a child.
METHODS: Observational case report. The authors describe a 10-year-old male with severe dry eyes who was profoundly disabled by pain and photophobia despite aggressive conventional therapy. The anatomical lacrimal drainage system was restored in 30 patients who suffered from dacryostenosis and tearing. Previously, in order to alleviate these patients' symptoms, a dacryocystorhinostomy had had to be performed. In the new procedure, local anesthesia was given, and a 600-micron fiberoptic was introduced through the lacrimal drainage system to the obstruction area. Idiopathic orbital inflammation is a common cause of acute orbital signs and symptoms. It is typically confined to the bony orbit; however, it can rarely involve contiguous structures with or without lytic change raising clinical suspicion for malignancy. Three cases of idiopathic inflammation of the orbit that affected adjacent structures are reported here; 2 cases had maxillary sinus involvement, while a third had extension in the temporal fossa.

A 26-year-old woman presented with a painful skin eruption which led to the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. During chemotherapy, she developed an unusual orbital inflammation. Careful observation of the clinical course, computed tomography, and orbital biopsy were necessary to establish the diagnosis of dacryoadenitis associated with subcutaneous Sweet's syndrome. The skin eruption and the dacryoadenitis resolved rapidly with corticosteroid therapy. This is the first report of dacryoadenitis in the course of subcutaneous Sweet's syndrome.
