Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) is a tick-borne acute febrile disease caused by Rickettsia conorii and characterized by fever, a maculo-papular rash and a black eschar at the site of the tick bite. We describe the case of a 3-year-old boy with MSF who developed a transient right coronary artery ectasia. The patient was brought to the hospital after four days of fever and mild myalgia of the legs. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease in which organs, tissues, and cells undergo damage mediated by tissue-binding autoantibodies and immune complexes. AIM: To examine corneal hysteresis (CH) and corneal resistance factor (CRF) in normal and ectatic corneas.
METHODS: CH and CRF were measured using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer in patients with clinically diagnosed keratoconus (KC), forme fruste KC (FFKC) and normal eyes.
RESULTS: 21 eyes (13 patients) with clinically diagnosed KC and 30 eyes (18 patients) with FFKC were included in the study. Mean CH and CRF in FFKC did not differ from that in pachymetry-matched normal eyes. KC eyes had significantly lower CH and CRF than normal and FFKC eyes.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are neoplasms of the pancreatic duct epithelium characterized by intraductal papillary growth and thick mucin secretion. Quantities of mucin fill the main and/or branches of pancreatic ducts and cause ductal dilatation. This review encompasses IPMNs, including symptoms, diagnosis, management, and prognosis.
METHODS: A Pubmed database search was performed. All abstracts were reviewed and all articles in which cases of IPMNs could be identified were further scrutinized. Further references were extracted by cross-referencing.

The literature on keratoconus and progressive post-laser in situ keratomileusis ectasia (PPLK) was studied after a retrospective review of 137 highly myopic eyes (mean -15.58 diopters) 5 to 9 years after LASIK. PURPOSE: To explore the role that mechanical elastic factors may have in post-refractive surgery corneal phenomena, from mild curvature changes to keratectasia.
METHODS: The central cornea near the apex was modeled as an elastic spherical thin shell loaded by the intraocular pressure (IOP). Equations for myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) were obtained to estimate shifts and curvature changes of the posterior corneal surface at the apex. We describe a rare case of giant cauda equina tumor in the upper lumbar spine with dural ectasia in the lumbosacral region. This patient had a long history of acromegaly due to pituitary adenoma, for which bromocriptine was administered. The cauda equina tumor was surgically resected en bloc and proved to be a benign schwannoma. PURPOSE: We conducted a prospective study to define normal renal pelvic size in children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Institutional Review Board approved consent was obtained to perform renal ultrasound during excretory urography (IVP) scheduled for medical management. Mean patient age (17 females, 11 males) was 5.2 years. Renal ultrasound was conducted concurrent with 10-minute IVP.

Eighty-five cases of post laser in situ keratomileusis ectasia were reviewed and analyzed. Cases of keratoconus or forme fruste keratoconus were eliminated; many remaining case reports lacked key information. The current literature is unable to define a specific residual corneal thickness or a range of preoperative corneal thickness that would put an eye at risk for developing ectasia.
