Elastic Staining Features in Pulmonary Non-Mucinous Adenocarcinoma and Associated In Situ Lesions: Diagnostic Implications.

Elastic staining may aid in the diagnosis of pulmonary non-mucinous adenocarcinoma and its in situ lesions. This study evaluated elastic staining patterns and their diagnostic utility in a multi-cohort series. Elastic staining was performed in 120 lesions, including a principal cohort (n = 60), an internal validation cohort (n = 30), an external validation cohort (n = 30), and an interobserver agreement cohort (n = 40). Staining patterns were analyzed and their impact on diagnostic accuracy was assessed. Four elastic staining patterns were identified: a point-and-linear pattern, an intensified

Is Adolescent Age a Contraindication to Titanium Elastic Nailing for Femoral Shaft Fractures? A Retrospective Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Titanium elastic nailing system (TENS) is widely used for pediatric femoral shaft fractures in school-age children, but its use in adolescents remains debated because greater age and body weight may increase mechanical demand on the elastic construct. This study compared outcomes of TENS in children aged 5-11 years and adolescents aged 12-16 years with isolated closed femoral shaft fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective comparative study reviewed existing hospital records and serial radiographs of 39 patients treated with TENS between January 2022 and December 2024.

Experimental and theoretical study of low energy differential elastic electron scattering from acrylonitrile (C2H3CN).

We report new experimental and theoretical differential elastic scattering cross sections (DCSs) for low-energy electron scattering from acrylonitrile (C2H3CN), together with integral and momentum-transfer cross sections derived from the measured DCSs. The experimental measurements were performed using the relative flow method with helium as the standard gas in a crossed electron-molecular beam arrangement. The measurements cover incident electron energies from 0.7 to 30 eV and scattering angles between 10° and 130°. The experimental DCSs are compared with Schwinger multichannel calculations e

Transient Contact Elastic-Plastic Characteristics Analysis of Rail Welded Joints in Heavy-Haul Railways.

This study investigates the transient wheel-rail contact mechanics of welded joints in heavy-haul rails via a validated 3D finite element model, and analyzes the stick-slip behavior, dynamic response and elastoplastic characteristics in the base material zone, heat-affected zone and weld bead zone. Results show a distinct contact state transition from stick-slip in the base material to predominant slip within the welded zones, indicating higher wear susceptibility. Dynamic response analysis reveals the highest and lowest contact-point acceleration amplitudes in the base material and heat-affec

Validation of femoral pressure-derived assessment of effective arterial elastance in porcine ischemic cardiogenic shock.

BACKGROUND: During ischemic cardiogenic shock (CS), increased afterload overburdens the damaged myocardium and may worsen outcomes. The measure, effective arterial elastance (Ea), integrates systemic vascular resistance, arterial compliance, and heart rate, and reflects left ventricular (LV) afterload. While Ea is traditionally derived from invasive LV pressure-volume (PV) analysis, a simplified bedside formula (0.9 × systolic arterial pressure/stroke volume) has been validated in stable intensive care patients. Its accuracy in CS, characterized by rapidly evolving hemodynamics, remains unknow

Severe elastic fiber fragmentation/loss is correlated with Marfan syndrome in patients with an ascending aortic aneurysm.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES: Aortic wall degeneration was described by a consensus statement published in 2016 by the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology (SCP) and Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology (AECP). The aim of this study was to determine if histopathologic features could predict the presence of genetic syndrome, to assess the prognostic value of histological findings, and to correlate it with clinical data. METHODS: This study included 85 patients operated in the CHRU of Nancy. When available (n=80), all histological sections were reviewed and scored following the SCP/AECP

Conservative treatment for refracture of the forearm with elastic stable intramedullary nails in situ in an adolescent: A case report.

Elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) for forearm shaft fractures in children and adolescents is generally associated with favorable outcomes. However, refracture with ESINs in situ is a rare complication. We report a rare case of refracture with implants in situ in a 14-year-old male patient. Six months after the initial surgery, the patient sustained a reinjury while playing soccer. Radiographs confirmed forearm shaft refracture of both the radius and ulna, and both intramedullary nails were bent at the fracture sites but remained unbroken. We performed emergent closed manual reductio

Influence of Hypertension on the Regional Elastic Properties of Ascending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms with Bicuspid Aortic Valves.

Although hypertension may affect the local biomechanical properties of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (ATAAs) with a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), a comparison of the regional elastic properties of BAV-ATAAs between patients with and without hypertension is not yet available due to lack of biomechanical data. In this study, we collected 25 fresh ATAA samples from 17 hypertensive and 8 age-matched non-hypertensive patients who underwent elective aortic surgery. Biomechanical tests were executed to investigate the regional failure stresses and biaxial mechanical properties of BAV-ATAAs with

Lightweight, elastic and bioactive scaffolds with enhanced vascularization and anti-inflammation for post-enucleation orbital reconstruction.

Ocular destructive surgery serves as the definitive treatment for irreversible severe damage to intraorbital structures. However, complications such as chronic inflammation, tissue compression, and displacement caused by traditional orbital implant materials significantly impair the life quality of patients in the long term. In this study, we developed a silk fibroin super-elastic sponge (SF-SEA) orbital implant featuring a microporous spherical structure, designed to provide intraorbital structural support and promote tissue regeneration. The orbital implant incorporates a double- crosslinkin

First-principles investigation of structural, elastic, electronic, thermodynamic, and optical properties of KBi3 for optoelectronic applications.

KBi3, a recently explored non-layered cubic compound, offers a distinctive platform beyond conventional van der Waals-type materials due to its intriguing physical characteristics. In this study, we conduct a comprehensive first-principles density functional theory (DFT) investigation of its structural, elastic, electronic, thermodynamic, and optical properties to establish its potential for optoelectronic applications. The computed elastic constants satisfy Born stability criteria, and complementary mechanical indicators-including Pugh's ratio, Poisson's ratio, and Cauchy pressure-confirm the

Deciphering neutrophil dynamics: Enhanced phagocytosis of elastic particles and impact on vascular-targeted carrier performance.

Particle elasticity has widely been established to substantially influence immune cell clearance and circulation time of vascular-targeted carriers (VTCs). However, prior studies have primarily investigated interactions with macrophages, monocytic cell lines, and in vivo murine models. Interactions between particles and human neutrophils remain largely unexplored, although they represent a critical aspect of VTC performance. Here, we explore the impact of particle elasticity on primary human neutrophil phagocytosis using polyethylene glycol-based particles of different elastic moduli. We found…

Modified Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing: A New Approach for Metaphyseal-Diaphyseal Fractures of the Forearm in Children.

Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing (ESIN) is the treatment of choice for forearm fractures in children. However, fractures occurring at the distal metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction (DMDJ) of the radius are notoriously difficult to treat. This paper presents a modified ESIN method to treat these fractures. Surgical intervention was considered for fractures with angulation >10 ° in the coronal plane, 20 ° in the sagittal plane, >1 cm of bayoneting, and instability after reduction. A radial approach is used. Once the nail is at the biceps tuberosity, it is retracted by 4 cm and at bent 90 °, and

Elastic intramedullary nailing: a viable solution to stabilise adult humeral diaphyseal fractures? A systematic review.

PURPOSE: Conservatively managed diaphyseal humeral fractures have demonstrated higher non-union rates than previously reported and there are drawbacks to functional bracing. There is a growing trend towards operative management of these injuries, yet there are several complications associated with current operative methods. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the role of elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) as a solution to mitigate these risks. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed using PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE and Cochrane databases. Methodology followed

A biomechanical study of a novel multi-plane elastic fixation anchor screw for the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis.

BACKGROUND: Distal tibiofibular syndesmotic injuries are common lower extremity injuries that typically require surgical intervention. TightRope technique has become a widely adopted clinical treatment for these injuries. However, the single-plane fixation nature of this technique carries risks of poor reduction and instability of the syndesmosis fixation. To address these limitations, we developed a novel multi-plane elastic fixation anchor screw, aimed at preserving the physiological micro-mobility of the tibiofibular syndesmosis while ensuring great anatomical restoration and biomechanicall

Progressive Ocular Axial Elongation and Retinal Ganglion Cell Degeneration in Mice with Elastic Fiber Disorder.

We previously reported ocular phenotypes of 1-year-old 129S1/SvlmJ lysyl oxidase-like 1 null (Loxl1-/-) mice. Here we sought to characterize age-dependent changes in C57BL/6J Loxl1-/- mice in a longitudinal fashion. Retinal ganglion cell (RGC) function was assessed by electroretinography (ERG), and optic nerves were evaluated by histological analysis. Ocular biometric measurements were obtained by optical coherence tomography (OCT). We detected reduced RGC function, revealed by decreased amplitude and increased latency of ERG positive scotopic threshold responses (pSTRs) in Loxl1-/- mice compa

Aortic elastic fiber degeneration during acute type a aortic dissection and reverse aortic remodeling.

BACKGROUND: Progression of proximal or distal aortic dilatation is defined as reverse aortic remodeling after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) that may be dependent on aortic wall degeneration. METHODS: We investigated whether aortic wall degeneration is associated with reverse aortic remodeling leading to aortic reoperation after surgery for ATAAD. Altogether, 141 consecutive patients undergoing surgery for ATAAD at Tampere were evaluated. The resected ascending aortic wall at surgery was processed for 42 degenerative, atherosclerotic and inflammatory histological variables
