We report on a case of duplicated hydrometrocolpos with uterus didelphys, a septate vagina, lower vaginal atresia, a persistent urogenital sinus, left ear agenesis, a single umbilical artery, and an imperforate anus, but without the associated features of McKusick-Kaufman syndrome such as polydactyly and congenital heart defects. This study quantified the concentrations of IgG and IgA in the periapical exudates obtained from 69 single-rooted teeth using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, and examined their correlation with clinical findings of the involved teeth. Changes in the levels of these immunoglobulins during root canal treatment were also investigated. The average levels of IgG (85.61 mg/ml) was significantly higher than that of IgA (0.65 mg/ml) (P < 0.001). We describe the case of a patient with breast cancer who developed bilateral malignant knee effusions, and review the English language literature. Patients with solid tumors who develop malignant joint effusions are rare; 27 cases have been reported (including our patient). The knee is the predominant site of joint involvement (p < 0.001). Bursitis is a periarticular rheumatism which occurs as a result of trauma, infection, metabolic disease or rheumatoid arthritis. The disease is usually manifested as a solitary lesion except in a few reported cases of multiple lesions. We describe here a case of bursitis in a 58-year-old woman with multifocal cystic lesions containing sterile bloody or yellowish fluid in the four extremities. Serological abnormalities were also noted, suggesting the presence of rheumatoid arthritis or another autoimmune connective tissue disease.

Three patients who developed anterior chamber fibrinous exudates after cataract surgery were treated with tissue plasminogen activator injected into the anterior chamber. There was prompt dissolution of the fibrinous exudates and no observed complications. When fibrinous exudates occur in high-risk patients after cataract surgery, tissue plasminogen activator provides an excellent means of clearing the fibrin.

OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to determine the presence and quantities of multifunctional cytokines in cyst and ascites fluids obtained from patients with ovarian cancer.
STUDY DESIGN: Cyst and ascites fluids obtained from 35 patients with ovarian epithelial neoplasms were analyzed for the multifunctional cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1 beta, and interleukin-6. The fluids were classified on the basis of the pathologic diagnosis of the tumor tissue. Data were evaluated by analysis of variance.

Two patients developed large tears of the retinal pigment epithelium associated with choroidal effusion. One tear occurred after combined cataract/filtration surgery complicated by postoperative choroidal detachment; the second developed in a patient with idiopathic uveal effusion syndrome. Weakness of the junctions of the pigment epithelial cells secondary to the accumulation of fluid in the subretinal or suprachoroidal space may result in tearing of the retinal pigment epithelium as it is stretched.
