We report a late complication of pectus excavatum repair which highlights the importance of a chest X-ray in evaluating chest pain in patients who have had previous chest surgery. It also raises the question of whether or not implanted wires should be electively removed following bony union.

BACKGROUND: Fiducial markers are commonly used to guide precise radiotherapy in prostate cancer patients. While intraprostatic migration has been described, transcutaneous displacement during biopsy is exceedingly rare. We report the first known case of transcutaneous fiducial marker removal during transperineal prostate rebiopsy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old man with high-risk prostate cancer underwent radiotherapy with gold fiducial markers in 2020. Following two biochemical recurrences, transperineal MRI/ultrasound fusion-guided biopsy was performed in 2024. Increased resistance was enc

BACKGROUND: Hem-O-Lok clips are widely used in laparoscopic appendectomy (LA). Although postoperative clip migration is rare, it is a clinically significant complication. Previous reports have mainly focused on clip migration after cholecystectomy and urologic surgery. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of clip migration into the intestinal lumen after LA. This report suggests that such migration may occur after LA, highlights an important potential device-related complication, and adds to the relevant literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old male experienced persist

BACKGROUND: Left renal vein (LRV) stenting is used in selected patients with symptomatic Nutcracker syndrome (NCS). Stent migration is uncommon but may be serious, particularly in interventions performed primarily for symptom relief. We report intracardiac migration after combined treatment of NCS-associated pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS) and use the event to discuss patient selection, treatment sequencing, and consent in pain-driven venous interventions.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 37-year-old woman with chronic pelvic pain and imaging findings compatible with nutcracker syndrome and as

The patient is a 58-year-old male who underwent aortic valve replacement and ascending aortic grafting five years ago. Postoperatively, a temporary epicardial pacing wire( TEPW) could not be removed, and was subsequently cut at insertion to the skin and left in situ. Despite ongoing antibiotic therapy, the patient's C-reactive protein (CRP) level remained elevated. An endoscopic examination revealed that the TEPW had migrated and penetrated the esophagus, prompting its endoscopic removal. TEPW can cause fatal complications, so they should be removed whenever possible. In patients with TEPW lef

INTRODUCTION: Dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRGS) is a recognized treatment for chronic neuropathic pain. A well-known complication is electrode migration, which most commonly occurs in a caudal direction.
OBJECTIVE: To present a rare clinical case of cranial migration of a DRGS electrode into the mediastinum.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old woman with pharmacoresistant intercostal neuralgia underwent DRGS electrode implantation at the Th2 level using a standard linear lead, as specialized DRGS electrodes were unavailable. Initial therapy was effective. However, follow-up imaging approx

This is the first report of lateral displacement of a shim into the middle ear space, resulting in chronic otomastoiditis and the need for surgical removal by tympanomastoidectomy. Long-term monitoring and suturing the shim to prevent displacement should be considered.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the clinical and surgical characteristics and treatment options of patients suffering delayed (>1 month) screw back-out after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).
METHODS: A systematic review was performed searching Embase, Medline, and Scopus for relevant case studies and case series of delayed screw back-out after ACDF.
RESULTS: A total of 25 studies encompassing 31 patients were identified and included. Average time to screw back-out was 4.6 years. Fifty-two percent of patients presented with dysphagia, and 61% had a pharyngoesophageal injury. Five patien

AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, risk factors, and treatment strategies of proximally migrated pancreatic stents.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The data of 626 sessions of 421 patients with pancreatic duct stenting were retrospectively analyzed between 2010 and 2018, and patients with proximally migrated stents were included in the study.
RESULTS: Of 626 stents examined, 77 migrated proximally (12%). The migration rate (MR) was 16%, 2%, and 7%, respectively, in patients treated with chronic pancreatitis, malignancy, and pancreatic leakage indication. The MR was 14% in pr

OBJECTIVE: Lead migration after spinal cord stimulator (SCS) implant is a commonly reported complication and the most common reason for revision surgery in cases of loss of efficacy. The primary aims of this study are to describe the incidence and degree of lead migration in the subacute postoperative period after SCS implant and to report potential risk factors for lead migration.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective chart review of all patients at a single academic center who received an SCS implant from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020. Information on patient (age, sex,

Treatment of patients presenting with type I aortic dissection is known to be a surgical challenge. The Djumbodis bare metal stent was developed to ease the burden of a reconstructive intervention on the aortic arch, to decrease the duration of the operation, and to minimize complications associated with artificial circulation. Currently, insufficiently explored remains the problem of complications occurring due to the technological fatigue of the metal and possible stent migration. Described herein is a clinical case report regarding migration of a Djumbodis stent, diagnosed 6 months after im

Erosion of surgical materials into the adjacent organs following surgical procedures is a rare complication. Migrations of these surgical materials into the urinary tract like pelvicalyceal system, ureter and bladder have been reported following various urological procedures. We present a case of migrated Hem-o-Lok clips into the ureter following a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for angiomyolipoma of the left kidney presented with recurrent urinary tract infection. The case was managed with ureteroscopic removal of clips. The patient is asymptomatic on last follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of successful surgical removal of a guide wire lost during central venous catheterization.
CASE SUMMARY: A 28 kg, 4-year-old female neutered mixed breed dog presented to the primary care veterinarian with diabetic ketosis. During the process of central venous catheterization, the guide wire was accidently released and the entire length of the guide wire slipped into the jugular vein. Due to the absence of nearby interventional radiology facilities, surgical intervention was proposed. An ultrasound was used to determine that the guide wire was located in the caudal

This case report documents the migration of 3 iodine-125 (125I) seeds from the tumor resection cavity into brain parenchyma over a 7-year period. A 66-year-old woman had a history of metastatic ovarian carcinoma, nickel allergy, and reaction to a titanium hip implant that required reoperation for hardware removal. In this unique case of parenchymal migration, the seed paths seemed to follow white matter tracts, traveling between 18.5 and 35.5 mm from the initial implant site. The patient's initial neurological decline, which was thought to be related to radiation necrosis, appeared to stabiliz

Use of high-velocity air guns can to lead to serious injuries. Management options of cardiac pellet gun injuries are based on patient stability, and course and location of the pellet. Presently reported is the case of a boy who was shot with an air gun pellet. Following right ventricular entry, the pellet lodged in the left atrium and embolized to the right iliac and femoral artery. Following pellet localization, right ventricular injury was repaired, and the pellet was removed successfully.

Cardiac migration is a rare complication of the ventriculoperitoneal shunt. We report a case of a late migration of the distal shunt into the pulmonary arteries. The authors underline the radiological features that suggested the presence of a knot. Preoperative planning and the assistance of a vascular surgeon were required due to the presence of a knot.
