Motor-cognitive exercise with variability of practice and feedback improves functional ability and cognition in older individuals.

BACKGROUND: Motor-cognitive dual-task training seems the most favorable form of exercise for functional and cognitive improvements in older individuals.  The optimal exercise regime is still uncertain, and the potential benefits of qualitative parameters of exercise prescription such as feedback provision and practice variability are mostly unknown. AIMS: To verify the effects of a motor-cognitive dual-task training with feedback provision and variability of practice for improving functional ability and cognition in older individuals. METHODS: Thirty individuals (3 men) aged over 65 years we

Daily relaxation response breaks in a working population: I. Effects on self-reported measures of health, performance, and well-being.

An experiment conducted at the corporate offices of a manufacturing firm investigated the effects of daily relaxation breaks on five self-reported measures of health, performance, and well-being. For 12 weeks, 126 volunteers filled out daily records and reported bi-weekly for additional measurements. After four weeks of baseline monitoring, they were divided randomly into three groups: Group A was taught a technique for producing the relaxation response; Group B was instructed to sit quiety; Group C received no instructions. Groups A and B were asked to take two 15-minute relaxation breaks dai

AI-driven virtual standardized patients combined with scenario-based simulation in anesthesiology training: a randomized pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Anesthesiology trainees require repeated opportunities to practice perioperative crisis recognition, decision-making, communication and teamwork, which are central to crisis resource management (CRM) and non-technical skills. High-fidelity simulation supports these competencies but is resource intensive to deliver repeatedly. AI-driven virtual standardized patients (AI-VSPs) may complement simulation and structured debriefing by enabling interactive practice and feedback. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, randomized, three-arm pilot study among 60 students enrolled in a profess

The Introduction of a Preoperative MRI Protocol Significantly Reduces Unplanned Return to the Operating Room in the Treatment of Pediatric Osteoarticular Infections.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric osteoarticular infection can cause severe morbidity. Some infectious loci may be difficult to identify clinically, and there may be more than one. There is little agreement regarding the appropriate use of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in this setting. After noting an unacceptably high rate of unplanned returns to the operating room for recurrent infection, clinicians at a tertiary care children's hospital noticed many patients had adjacent foci of infection on postoperative MRI. As a result, patients experienced prolonged treatment courses and multiple su
