A different placement of the stone; rhinolithiasis.

INTRODUCTION: Rhinolithiasis is a rare disease and formed by mineralization in the nasal cavity. Precipitated calcareous material on intranasal foreign substances forms the rhinoliths. It is start time could have since childhood. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this article, we present eight cases of rhinolithiasis who admitted to our Clinic between January 2001 and December 2010 with unilateral chronic nasal discharge, nasal obstruction and oral malodor. CONCLUSIONS: Rhinolithiasis mostly manifests itself with unilateral purulent rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction and facial pain symptoms. We aimed to

The ADA guidelines on oral malodor products.

For over 130 years the ADA has been an important information source on the safety and effectiveness of dental products. The Council has recently completed the development of Acceptance Program Guidelines for products used in the management of oral malodor. The ADA Seal Program will ensure that professional and consumer dental products meet rigorous ADA criteria for safety and effectiveness

Association between oral malodor and adult periodontitis: a review.

BACKGROUND: Bad breath has a significant impact on our daily social life to those who suffer from it. The majority of bad breath originates within the oral cavity. However, it is also possible that it can come from other sources such as gastric-intestine imbalance. The term "oral malodor" is used to describe a foul or offensive odor emanating from the oral cavity, in which proteolysis, metabolic products of the desquamating cell, and bacterial putrefaction are involved. Recent evidence has demonstrated a link between oral malodor and adult periodontitis. The process of developing bad breath is

Microbial volatile organic compounds and olfactory receptors in wound malodor.

Wound odor is a common symptom in patients with chronic wounds. Malodorous wounds can result in embarrassment, anxiety, and, therefore, in social isolation of the patient. Current treatment options are limited and focused on masking the odor. Current approaches to wound odor management have notable limitations and fail to adequately address existing therapeutic needs. Wound odor is multifactorial, with a major contribution from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by microorganisms and necrotic tissue. Several VOCs have been identified as key drivers of malodor, such as short-chain fatty

Advancing frontiers in skin offensive odor management: from innovative diagnostics to cutting-edge treatments and emerging technologies.

Skin bromhidrosis, commonly referred to as body odor, is caused by the microbial breakdown of sweat, leading to the formation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that result in unpleasant odors. While body odor is a natural consequence of sweat production, excessive or persistent odor can significantly affect quality of life, causing social stigma and psychological distress. Traditional approaches to managing body odor, such as antiperspirants and deodorants, have limitations, necessitating the development of more advanced diagnostic tools and treatments. This review aims to explore recent ad

Oral microbiota populations of adult dogs consuming wet or dry foods.

Oral microbiota play a prominent role in canine periodontal disease and wet foods are often blamed for poor oral health, but canine oral microbial communities have been poorly studied. We aimed to determine differences in oral health measures, breath odor, and oral microbiota populations of dogs fed wet or dry food. Twelve adult dogs fed either a commercial dry (extruded) or commercial wet (canned) food for 6 wk were studied. Breath samples were measured for sulfur compounds, teeth were scored for plaque, calculus, and gingivitis by a blinded veterinary dentist, salivary pH was measured, and s

Effect of different oral hygiene measures on oral malodor in children aged 7-15 years.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of various oral hygiene measures individually and in combination in reducing oral malodor. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total number of 120 children diagnosed as having oral malodor (oral malodor scores 2 and above) were included in the study. Children were then grouped under four oral hygiene categories (tooth brushing, tongue cleaning, mouth rinsing, and a combination group). There were 30 children in each group. The children were asked to perform oral hygiene methods individually and in combination. The children were then reassessed for oral malodor 2 h later. T

Clinical assessment of oral malodor intensity expressed as absolute value using an electronic nose.

OBJECTIVES: In our previous study, scores determined via a multiple linear regression method (EN-MLR) involving an electronic nose provided objective halitosis-related measurements; however, this model afforded only relative expression exclusively. The objective of this investigation was to assess clinically oral malodor intensity expressed as an absolute value using an electronic nose. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Sixty-six subjects were evaluated based on results of an actual organoleptic test (OLT), measurements of volatile sulfur compound (VSC) concentrations, a score representing malodor intens…

Ecology of genus Porphyromonas in canine periodontal disease.

Asaccharolytic pigmented Porphyromonas species, including P. endodontalis, P. gingivalis, P. circumdentaria and unclassified species, were isolated from the plaque of adult dogs, but not from any oral sites of puppies and adolescent dogs. With age-dependency, the proportion of Porphyromonas species in the flora of plaque increased. Isolation of the genus Porphyromonas was clearly associated with the progress of periodontol disease. We suggested that Porphyromonas is the exogenous organism and obligate pathogen for canine periodontal diseases.
